Lille - Manchester United [R]

night

Starting XI
Final score: 0-1 to Manchester United. Giggs 84'
First half was quite boring but the second half was end to end stuff with so many chances but neither side could score until the 84th minute.
Giggs took a quick freekick (just like the Henry one) and scored which got all the Lille players bitching to the ref who simply had his back to the ball when Giggs took the shot (H)
When Lille restarted, they simply kicked the ball to the sidelines to complain to the ref about the goal and you could feel that they almost were about to leave the field.
So, do you all think that the goal was rightfully allowed?

Help?

The goal was definietly rightfully allowed, you could see the ref talking to Rooney and then walking away right after and Giggs scores. Lille were just were dissapointed because they had a more or less soft goal disallowed and they played better throughout 90 minutes and emotions are bound to run high, when you dominate such a huge club like Manchester United and then end up being empty-handed.

As I posted in the United thread, I would have left the field too, I felt like crap as a complete neutral because I actually wasted my time watching this game.

Completely disgraceful reffereeing, not only the FK thing but the disallowed goal was completely fair. Surely the ref was a bitter AEK Athens fan or something.

That fast FK rule thing is probably the most disgraceful thing in football right now and HAS to be revised, who cares if it's a written rule if 99% of the refs don't allow it anyway.

They probably only change it when a CL or a WC final is decided this way.

Although I do agree that the goal in itself was maybe cruel... but I have to laugh at french fans who are annoyed about this result yet tell you how much of a genius Henry is when he takes them quickly.

How relevant is that right now? ... i don't know.

part of post in united thread..

I could tell from the start that Lille are a pathetic, little club. Disorganised in regards to the ticketing farce whereby some of our fans were two to a seat, and then those french policemen battering us down no matter what people were sayin to explain the situation. The fans cheering every missed opportunity and foul, and then complaining about little nudges and shoves. The final straw was taking their bat and ball home when a controversal goal was scored. They had plenty of time to sort things out, everyone could see that when the kick was taken, the keeper was actually stood on his post not actually doing anything. The referee had walked away and everything was dandy. They wouldn't have been complaining had a quick throw, corner, or indirect freekick had been taken resulting in a goal. To walk off over a dodgy decision is ludicrous. I'm not saying they should be booted out, but no doubt mr platini will bend over backwards to ensure they aren't. You can guarantee our players wouldn't have walked off had that happened, nor would we be launching coin, ticket, anything at hand at the opposition. Disgraceful scenes. Had i been a Lille fan, ok i would have been a little aggrieved at the decision, but it would be accepted and i'd move on.

So it's ok to do it because Henry is french and does it too sometimes?

It's just disgraceful and I hope Platini is watching and changes the god damn rule.

I know I'd be willing to punch the ref had it happened to my club.

A rule is a rule, it's been there for years. The ref asks the player whether he wants it quick or he wants 10 yards. The player makes a decision and acts on it. It was Lille's problem for not putting a player infront of the ball, every other team learned to do that 2 years ago when Henry was going on his rampage.

Are you mentally retarded??? You can't PUSH a player out of the way to get to a ball, go read the rules.:boohoo:

the guy barely touched Vidic who felt the other guy and totally made a meal of it.

Vidic is hard as nails, there's no way in hell he would lose balance with a touch like that.

And no I'm not retarded but thanks for asking.

oh for f*ck sake take off the red tinted glasses please.

It's a matter of fair play and Giggs had none. I've seen lots of teams try that before and the ref has always told them to repeat the freekick because the other team wasn't ready.

No one said owt when Daniel Allsopp bagged his tenth goal of the 2006/07 A-League season against the New Zealand Knights in round 17 after a quick Kevin Muscat free kick set-up the goal to put MV 1-0 up (no taking the moral high ground now, Rob).

Someones bitter.

It was clear vidic was shoved out of the way, i challenge you to stay standing in a situation like that. The rules are rules, deal with it, its not the players problem. As i said before if it was a quick throw, corner, or indirect freekick resulting in a goal you would have had no complaints.

WHAT????????? Excuse me but where the hell did you get that from? This is an official rule and refs even in leagues i play ask that kind of things. I don't even see what you are complaining about here.

As for the red tinted glasses, read what i said about the game in the United thread first, before going all crazy. Your team wasn't even playing, what are you pissed about?

I was just called mentally retarded because I watched the game as a neutral and disagree with you lot about 2 decisions. Note that you're defending YOUR club and I'm not.

Considering this, I think my reaction was pretty moderate, but I do get pissed beyond reason every time I watch one of these goals being scored no matter who's the team scoring it.
