LFC Finally Given Royal Hono(u)rs

TheBlueBalla

Starting XI
Some of you may have heard of the decision, described by Rick Parry as "a little short of staggering" that Liverpool were not among the recepients of Royal accolades and awards for their achievement in Istanbul

Here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/4604484.stm

Well, apparrently the Royal family were listening, and have rememdied the situation: enjoy

The BBC has announced that it will be televising the June awards ceremony at Buckingham Palace in tribute to, and for, the Liverpool FC heroes involved in their Champions League victory last spring.

Gary Lineker will be introducing the action from an especially erected gazebo in the grounds of Buckingham Palace from 9:30am, he will be joined by the popular and witty Mark Lawrenson, Alan Hansen, Kenny Dalglish, and Terry McDermott. The BBC schedule for the day has been revised as follows-

9:30am Its Liverpool's Day!
Live from the gardens of Buckingham Palace with Gary Lineker.

10:00am What Liverpool Has Done For Us.
A special programme introduced by Adam Hart-Davis

10:01am You'll Never Walk Alone
Primary schools from across the nation link hands, hold candles, and look angelic as they sing the famous Anfield anthem. A special prize will be awarded for the most tear jerking rendition. The song will be accompanied by footage of Liverpool scenes, including the Ferry cross the Mersey and some other hastily cobbled together stuff.

10:30am Shanks
A gathering of football legends sit around, say "Shanks" and shake or nod their heads knowingly before launching into some story that everyone has heard 100 times before (repeated at 10:30pm)

10:45am The Queen
The Queen addresses Liverpool, its people, its wit, its brave fortitude, its ability to laugh at you-and with you, bless- and its warmth.

11:00am THE HONOURS
The awards are given. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are being especially recreated in Speke to commemorate the occasion, as Sir Stephen Gerrard and Sir Rafa Benitez receive their awards, the whole nation will, at 11:11am, stand in three minutes silence and wish they were Scousers.

11:15am Motorcade down Pall Mall.
Liverpools new Knights are given a Vauxhall Cavalier motorcade down the Mall. Office workers from around London have been forced to take a days unpaid leave to throw roses and other flowers in their path.

12 noon Liverpool's Greatest Moments.
A montage of as many Liverpool moments as possible, all with that bloody song from Gerry Marsden played in the background. The FA is expected to make a lunchtime announcement confirming that the result of the 1988 FA Cup final has been reversed and that Liverpool have been granted a 4-0 (Rush 2, Hansen, Beglin) win over Wimbledon.

12:30pm Presentation of 1988 FA Cup.
Made by the Queen Mother, specially cloned for the occasion, to Sir Kenneth of Dalglish.

1:15pm The Liver Birds
Polly and Sandra hope to get into Stephen Gerrards trousers! O'er!

credit to OnOnOn over at OTL, where he apparrently stole it from another source. He's an LFC man himself, so I hope you all here can take it with a pinch of salt ;)

But I cant blame Rick for whinning. After all every member of the Ashes team right down to some obscure reserve received awards for their victory. :(

Recognised for what?FFS
The Cricket team should never have won the awards either.Who the hell gives a toss about the ashes in England anyway apart from a few thousand people caught up in the media hysteria.
I cant believe Parry. So Liverpool win the CL,and that entitles them to an MBE or an OBE?
Winning the World cup maybe i can agree that awards could be presented, but the CL?For gods sake its pathetic.I think Parry has made Liverpool the laughing stock of the world. What a whinger.
There are only 2 englishmen in the bloody team so how can anyone say it was a victory for England.
In the past ,i agree that Shanks should maybe have been knighted but thats history now,and back then, sports people didnt get these awards at the drop of a hat as people do now.
Fergie didn't get knighted because Man U won the CL in 1999.He got knighted because of his long service to football AND because United won the TREBLE in 1999.
If i was Gerrard or Carragher i would be severly embarrassed by all of this crap.Unbelievable........... :kader:

Funny article Balla, nice one dude......but you know, there are plenty of scousers out there who would see that timetable for "Liverpool Day" as a fair and normal thing to expect.I would imagine there are quite a few of them who would regard a day like that as deserving. After all,not only did they win the CL,but they also.........hey hang on,thats all they did.The rest of their season was one of the worst in Liverpool history. No League Cup,no FA Cup and finished halfway down the Premiership table. Not a very good season at all really considering they call themselves "The best team in Europe".Thats why most of them would not appreciate the sarcasm of an article like that.Scousers, you see,are great at taking the piss out of everyone else, but they just cant take it when they get some back. That is a well known fact about the scouser psyche..... :bob:

PSVforever.....very constructive mate.Being a republican(NOT the same as an American Republican i hasten to add),i despise the honours system in England.Someone makes themselves a millionaire in England, walking over everyone to get there and what do you know....they give them a knighthood. For what?....For making themselves rich ,thats what. You give £500,000 pounds to Labour or the Conservatives and what do you get? They give you a peerage and call you a LORD.A footballer who earns £80,000 a week, does not think about helping the less fortunate people of the world when he plays in the CL final. He plays football to make himself rich and to bring glory to a football club.Big fu.c.k.ing deal.
Compare this to someone who dedicates their entire life to fighting poverty in 3rd world countries, or helping thousands of abandoned orphans around the world to find new families who will love them.Where are the awards for these people?Do they cry like a baby to the newspapers about how badly they have been treated?...Do they whinge to the media that their actions should be rewarded?...No they dont, because they are not in it for themselves.Unlike certain people in the world of football, they know that their are more important issues than the boosting of egos.Liverpools behaviour in this instance has proved just how shallow and ignorant the world of football really is.Pathetic and shameful.

Truth is, most of us don't 'care' as such and despise the whole honours system and all that it implies - I for one have always loved the idea of one day being offered a knighthood or such and giving them the same reply (only publicly this time) that I gave a certain Chief Planning Officer a while back when he offered to propose me for membership of his Masonic Lodge...the second word is 'off'.

However, what lies beneath a lot of the resentment of Slur Alex getting one, Sir Ticket Tout another, Lovable old Sir Bobby Alzheimers and so forth - is with Shanks getting nothing, and Bob Paisley - the greatest English Manager of all time missing out after a whole life in the game, almost entirely with the same club, we are left more seriously considering that all our talk about various governments, politicians, press and media etc really do if not hate us, have a negative view/agenda toward us - and not just LFC, but Liverpool as a whole. I know of only one Cabinet Minister who was genuinely thrilled that we got the ECoC 2008 and not Oxford (most of them wanted that as they went to University there and could do so easily again for the events) or Bristol and guess what? He's working class and the object of political and media ridicule too - yep, the same man who told the NWDA to get it's act together and granted us clearance to build the new stadium - John Prescott.

So it might be only a perception of persecution/negligence in the end - but the actual and circumstantial evidence is enough to convince many people they're not imagining it.

Fair points indeed man.As i said earlier,Shanks should have got one,and as you said, Paisley should have for sure.I agree .
Glad you feel the same way about the honours system in principle though.
To be honest though,i dont think Liverpool are singled out,I think that everywhere above Birmingham is ignored and deprived by the twats who make all the decisions.
Actually, although i'm sure some people will disagree,i would say most if not all working class towns and cities are pretty much ignored as they historically always have been.Yep even down here in the south we have areas that get no investment in houses or jobs or recreation, unless you want to pay through the nose for it.Thats what we get i suppose when the leader of the Labour party is a closet Tory. :kader:
So yeah,i agree that Liverpool probably do miss out on things, but so do too many other parts of our "wonderful" country too. :ewan:

LOL..go Pede..always politically correct! Probably one of the few with common sense on this message board.

but hey after the b*****g by Liverpool staff how can they not invite them for honours. If it only takes 1 season of european success for you to be commended then so be it. Who are we to complain. Other Sports men and women take years and years but Benitez after 1 season deserves the dessert. Alleluyah.
