Lennon - Keane to Celtic?

"Neil Lennon has pleaded with Celtic to splash the cash and make a move for Tottenham forward Robbie Keane.
With Henrik Larsson unlikely to remain in Glasgow next term, Lennon sees the Spurs ace as the ideal replacement for the prolific Swede.

Although the ex-Leicester man concedes that no-one can replace Larsson, Lennon believes the capture of Keane could help the Celtic Park faithful recover from the loss of their talisman.

Lennon said: "The club are going to have to come up with someone to replace Henrik and Robbie is one who springs to mind.

"You can't replace Henrik and it will be unfair on whoever comes into the club to compare him with Henrik because he is a one-off and we may never see his like again.

"It would also take an obscene amount of money to bring in someone as good as he is but Robbie is one player who springs to mind.

"I wouldn't compare the two because Robbie is his own player but I've always liked him and I've been impressed with him this season.

"He's scored a couple for the Republic of Ireland and he's started to score for Spurs as well. I'm sure he would enjoy playing up front beside Chris Sutton and John Hartson."

Former Feyenoord hot-shot Larsson is adamant he will not be talked out of quitting The Bhoys, but Lennon says realistically, only a long run in the UEFA Champions League is likely to make him change his mind.

Lennon added: "I've tried to talk him out of leaving. We have all tried to persuade him to stay with Celtic but he is very much his own man and that's why he is as good as he is on the park."

This would be great is we could get robbie, but i dont think that we will:( . You cant replace Henrik but robbie is a good replacement imo :)

If Robbie knows whats good for him, he would ditch Spurs for Celtic.

He's young, ooz'ing with quality, the right long-term replacement for Henrik Larsson's vacancy(He can't be replaced I know :p).

Keane will get some medal's if he leaves Spurs.

hey Carlos*ie who do u think we should get to replace larsson, do think perhaps maloney and beattie could fill the void? someone else coming through the ranks or do u think we should buy a new striker

They will definitely have to pick someone up to replace Larsson in my opinion. I would absolutely LOVE to see Robbie wear the hoops, but it would definitely take a big bundle of cash. However, seeing as how the Spurs are struggling and Robbie isn't doing as well over there as he maybe could, he could demand to leave and perhaps that would lower his cost- this would probably only happen if Celtic expressed a strong and relatively public desire for him. I say there is only 35% chance of this happening but it's always fun to think about.

Not sure who I'd like to replace Larsson.

Whoever comes in it'll be impossible to match what the guy has done for the club. Next Wednesday's result will probably determine what quality of player we could afford when Larsson goes. If we get a point in Lyon then how about Pauleta of PSG or Morientes who is currently on loan to Monaco from Real Madrid. Of course that still leaves us with the same old problem, would players of that standing want to play in the SPL? Perhaps not!

In the CIS Cup draw against Partick Thistle the youth at Celtic look to be taking great strides and perhaps a big name signing is not a dire need now- Beattie was very impressive as were others.

the only games i see of celtic is a about 10-15 spl games on espn per season and if im extrmely lucky i see them play some cl games on espn, so i cant really comment on the youth of the squad:(

I can't really see any but I read all the match reports. Soccernet said Beattie and other youth players played maturely.
