@Yoss - Not exactly certain about the correct 'definition' of a stop-gap, but its a little bit like saying the slimline PS2 was a stop-gap between the PS2 and the PS3, its a bit like a half-assed product so you dont get annoyed having to wait for something better to come along. Order of the Phoenix has this feeling, but don't get me wrong, it's certainly watchable.

.

No, I know what "Stop gap' means. It's just that I thought that this was the last of the series.....hence, I was confused contextually when I saw the phrase 'Stop gap".

Watched The Sentinel with Michael Douglas, Sutherland and Eva Longoria. It's ok. Not really my kind of movie, my dad loved it though. Another run-of-the-mill frame-up flick in the ending of which pretty much nothing is explained. Basically, it's a bunch of filmmakers telling me 'Look at all the ways we've came up with in which a guy can find out stuff, or hide some stuff.'

Also watched Little Miss Sunshine which I liked a bit better. Entertaining, but not as funny as I expected. Even though the ending wasn't that funny, the entire build-up towards it had me laughing my ass off at that dance scene.

Completely agree. It's a lovely little film but it didn't make me laugh quite as much as i thought it would. Still, a very nice movie.

Did you think that Frank (Carrel) would attempt another suicide? Whenever I saw him on his own or something, especially after the purchasing scene, I thought he would try again.

Anyway, I was flipping through the channels now and noticed that Herbie: Fully Loaded, Freaky Friday, A Cinderella Story and the Lizzy McGuire movie were all on at the same time. I've unfortunately seen them all at some point, and it got me thinking, these movies have maybe 3-10 times in which you cringe. You literally want to stop watching, you try to look away, and it's physically painful to watch. It could be when Lohan tells her father that she's a natural-born racer, and tells him that's in her blood. Or when, at the end of the movie, after the climax, she asks the car to help her out, which it does, shoving the guy towards her, in the ensuing moments, of course, they have their kiss. Or when Duff makes out with her prince with everyone watching, right at the climax of the film. So, my question is, why do we cringe? Is it because the acting is terrible? The plot is so foreseeable? The moment is simply too melodramatic to handle? Or other?

Very good question, and i've certainly felt most of the feelings you note (H)

I think it's a bit of a case of embarrasment, because it's essentially a film aimed at people younger than you, and you happen to be watching it. Now, in periods of comedy, or action, that's fine, but when there's sentimental bits, stuff that you're meant to take seriously, you feel embarrased. Mainly because it's emotional logic on a 10yr-old-basis, so if you're anything above 15 you feel like you want to laugh at it, but then, you feel you'd be cheating yourself BECAUSE you've watched the rest of it in good spirits.

So all that leaves you torn between embarrasment and immersion, leaving you, as you so aptly put, cringing.

Wow, I wasn't expecting anyone to take me seriously. Makes perfect sense, although, to be fair, these films are more-or-less directed at my age group. So I guess it's worse for you.

The Laughing Policeman.... 70s police procedural starring Walter Matthau and Bruce Dern - excellent acting, a very gritty and real depiction of police procedure at the time and a great peep hole into the 70s.

The Searchers...... badass John Wayne western, definately the best John Wayne movie I've seen, even better than Red River, superb acting from the big man, a rock solid story and stunning visuals. One of the great westerns.

Prime Cut.... some ****ed up movie on TV with Lee Marvin as a mob enforcer who tries to collect a debt from a southern ranch owner called Gene Hackman who likes to auction of women as sex slaves and make previous mob guys into sausages. Pretty sick movie but pretty cool, Marvin's character was very by the book though and not a good or believable performance.

At Close Range.... movie on TV which starred a young Sean Penn as the son of criminal dad Christopher Walken, watched it for the stars and overall was disappointed, Walken was miscast and Penn was weak. Got better in the second half when things took a turn for the violent, but to be honest I was bored for most of the movie.

So, that's what I've watched lately.

Before Sunrise/Before Sunset.

Bought these recently. They're the only two missing from my Linklater collection (intentionally).....simply because I don't have the intestinal fortitude necessary to sit through a ******* romantic piece. I'm just not manly enough, man. They're almost always too mind-numbingly retarded and sickly sweet for my liking, man.

Anyway, HOLY****, man!......wow. I repeat, I don't know much about the genre, but these two movies just might be the best of the lot, man. They just blew me away.....I don't know if linklater got any awards for his deftly brilliant and minimalistic directing, and writing aswell....can't forget about the writing since it's what makes these two movies such masterpieces..hhmm......to hell with awards actually. It's even a better gesture that they didn't generate great wide appeal.

The chemistry and sincerity between Hawke and the French broad (who im ******* ragingly in love with at the moment) was just so natural and completely unaffected, you know? Some of the best and most genuine dialogue that I've ever come across in a movie, man. Even by Linklater standards, the script is out of this world......as is the acting to complement it.

These two movies even warmed the barren, cynical and cold heart of a nigga like me, man......that's all that I can say.....(ellipsis much?...hurhur).....just saddens me somewhat that I didn't give em a chance earlier, man.

Countdown to the Tiff has finally begun in earnest and this year they're really hyping up that Cronenberg joint with Viggo Mortensen. I'd definitely like to check it out on its premiere night if I can secure some tickets or an event pass, man.

Also, there seem to be a ton of foreign flicks this year, man.....atleast from the previews......*attempts to repress the anxiety of watching a movie in a foreign tongue and just thinkin about all the good **** that's being lost in the translating process*

that's why I envy Euros so much, man. Most of the ones that you come across in your daily business are easily able to manage 3-4 different tongues without so much as an ounce of struggle.

**** you hardcore, you frilly little faggots!!!!

Sorry man, did I interpret this correctly? Was your dad part negro and your mom asian? If so, did they even each other out and leave you with an average sized penis?
