BIG-MATCH FACTS

LIVERPOOL go into this home match with Fulham, lying in their minimum requirement of fourth spot leading Newcastle on goal difference (who have a game in hand), a point ahead of Aston Villa, two points in front of Charlton and three points in advance of Birmingham. But Gerard Houllier's side lost Easter fixtures against Arsenal (4-2 a) and Charlton (0-1 h).

Defeat away to the Addicks kicked off Liverpool's last three match losing streak in the Premiership in late September and early October. The Easter Monday reverse ended an 11 match unbeaten run in League and Cup at Anfield and a seven match undefeated home sequence in the Premiership (six wins, one draw). This is a must-win game, with a trip to Manchester United to come next weekend. Should it come down to the wire the fourth spot could be settled by the visit to Anfield of Newcastle on the last day.

Liverpool engineered a routine 2-0 victory in this corresponding fixture last season, but needed a late Danny Murphy penalty to secure all three points in the reverse fixture this season. Now the Reds are vying for a third win against the Cottagers to compete a first top flight 'double' over them and only a third against them of all time, following home and away victories in the old Second Division in 1954/55 and 1956/57.

FULHAM travel to Anfield on the back of Monday's eventful home 3-4 defeat by a Blackburn side, fighting for their Premiership lives, and came after the Londoners had kept clean sheets in each of their three previous matches. It also put the Cottagers back to the bottom rung of the top half (tenth) - their lowest position since the first week of the season. Chris Coleman's side are five places and five points shy of an Uefa Cup spot, with a six pointer at home to Charlton to follow and a home clash with table topping Arsenal.

The Londoners have already bagged 44 points, which equals their total for the entire campaign in 2001/02 when they finished a Premiership best 13th. They still have five matches to play.

Fulham have never won at Liverpool.

Time to pay back fans - by Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL boss Gerard Houllier has called on his players to pay back the club and the fans for their loyal support by qualifying for the Champions League.

Houllier says failure is inconceivable: "I don't think the players owe me anything because it is not about me, but they owe the club and they definitely owe the fans.

"We will draw the lessons from this season after the next five games but until then we must just focus on the games to come. We are having a tough time but we will turn things around.

"We have been good in certain games but what we need is consistency. What we need is the mental strengh to see it through and finish fourth. It is up to the players to seize the opportunity and not see this challenge as a threat but as an opportunity."

Houllier has admitted he is not bothered about the performances in Liverpool's final games - only points concern him.

He said: "It is only about results and points, that's exactly it, never mind the performances.

"Let's focus on the five remaining games because they can save our season.

"We are not happy with the way we have gone out of the cups and we are not happy with the way we have slipped down in the league."

A teenage goalkeeper is on standby to make his Liverpool debut, almost 15 years to the day since his father died at Hillsborough.

Paul Harrison was four when his father, Gary, was among the 96 Liverpool fans killed during the FA Cup semi-final on April 15, 1989.

His uncle Stephen, 31, was also a victim.

But the fates have conspired to give Paul a chance of making the Liverpool squad for tomorrow's match against Fulham at Anfield.

With Reds keeper Chris Kirkland injured, Paul has been promoted to third choice.

But current second choice stopper Patrice Luzi suffered a hand injury playing for the reserves on Tuesday and if he fails to recover Paul will be on the bench.

Today, Paul's mother Karen said she was amazed at how events were conspiring at such a poignant time in the year.

She said: "It is unbelievable. Earlier this year Paul was told that he would not be being kept on by the club when his contract runs out in June.

"He was heartbroken when he was told.

"But now it looks like he could be involved on Saturday, which would be amazing considering all the things that have had to happen for it even to be a possibility.

"The only thing is Paul loves Patrice and he doesn't want him to be injured.

"But whether Paul is on the bench or not doesn't really matter because we are really proud of him whatever happens."

Paul and Karen, from Belle Vale, went to the cemetery to visit Gary's grave and yesterday they joined thousands for a service on the Kop remembering the victims of Britain's worst ever football tragedy.

It would be wonderful if Harrison can make the bench for the game and if we're cruising 3-0 in the second half (yes I know) if he could come on for a few minutes. Might be fantasy stuff but this is the sort of things dreams are made of, it would also serve to bring the subject to the attention of the wider public and give the crowd a chance to show the meaning of support.
:)

Normally I root for Liverpool against whoever they play in the EPL but with my man Boca - US international and ex-Fire player - in the starting line-up I've gotta be behind Fulham 100%. Plus, Brian McBride could come in off the bench.

GO 'Los! Go Fulham! :rockman: :clapwap:

all the liverpool players best watch out otherwise they might have to deal with the Knight, last week he headbutted John Stead

Liverpool are SHíT and will lose atleast 3-0. Owen will miss 9 pens and Hyypia will give away 3 pens. Harry Kewell will realise he's shít and go home, Biscan will be captain, but Gerrard will still be a legend, Owen will be sold right after full time as will Diouf to keep everyone equally upset. Houllier will then get ran over by a young aberdonian without a license.

thats my prediction (H)
