My bro finished level points with Man Utd in the ML. he is celtic and had exactly same points, goals scored, goals against, wins and losses etc as Man Utd. He played Man Utd on the last game of the season and it finished 1-1. there was no title celebration by either side even though the table had celtic in 1st Place. In the trophy cabniet there is no league title.

maybe they should go to penalties or something

In real life it would end up going to 'fair play' record (red/yellow cards) to determine a winner.

No it would go down to goal difference, or head to head record.

i think it'd be more fair, to set the match to go extra time then penalties...

Spurs4Life, if goals scored and goals against are the same, then goal difference must be the same too
It does make you wonder what the result was in the other match between the two sides. If either team won, then the title would go to that team, but if it was a draw, they would have a playoff, probably with extra time and penalties, if need be...

Well in the original post he said the goal difference was the same, and assuming the head 2 head was the same, it then goes to fair play record.

Edit: I can't find official rules for the premiership, but heres Euro 2004:

If teams finish level on points then the top team will be:
(1) the winner of the match between those teams
(2) then goal difference (e.g. if 2 teams have drawn)
(3) then goals scored
(4) qualifying record for World Cup 2002 and Euro 2004
(5) fair play ranking
(6) penalty shoot-out or lots
