Apparently the Barça fans eventually got fed up with him. There was a joke here in Spain that went:

A man is convicted and sentenced to death by firing squad. Before he is executed, he is asked if he has any last requests. "Yes," says the man. "Have Kluivert shoot."

Nice.

He's one of those guys that have heaps of talent but just don't have the body to play. The last couple of years he was mainly injured. That's why he never gets to play much.

He's actually following a course to become a coach already.

Arguably my favourite international game. The atmosphere inside the stadium was amazing.....I think they called it ORANGE Clockwork. Too bad he didn't do it to Brazil....that would have done it for me.:)

*chills*.....brings back a rush of great memories....

Yeah, I don't understand why Kluivert struggled so much to finish off easy opportunities guys like RvN and Vieri have feasted on for the better part of their careers. His inefficiency inside the box makes no sense to me because imo, it wasn't a technical issue with him. He was such a complete striker both technically and physically.....an almost perfect specimen, yet he'd piss away what would seem to be the easiest of chances....I think that it was all mental with him because you can't accuse him of being defective and without quality technically speaking, you know?

DAMN! Ronaldo is the same age.....anyone know about his injury? I heard that it was a career ender....akin to Shaun Livingston's....that's so depressing, man. His body is a total wreck. I just don't think that he's got the mental fortitude to attempt to properly recover from this injury.

Also, did Milan release 'em or what?

He expects to run again in August and seems pretty dead set on playing again.

Oh, and Livington is playing again.

Trouble with Kluivert is he had too much too soon. European Champion very early on with Ajax, then early moves to big clubs. I suppose his desire dried up, he didn't have anything to aim for anymore and he isn't someone who can motivate himself very well. That's how it seems anyway.

Yeah, except Ronaldo won the Golden Boot at World Cup 2002, well after his prime with PSV and Barcelona.

Well Kluivert won the golden boot at the EURO 2000 5 years after his goal in Vienna. But yeah I think with Kluivert it's a bit more extreme than with Ronaldo in that he practically had his biggest success at barely 18 years of age.

And also Ronaldo when fit still bangs in the goals. He doesnt tear teams to pieces like he used to but he still scores

We apologize for keeping the yellow too long
Yellow Card
Well, after leaving Barcelona(4 or 5 years ago) Kluivert has bounced around a number of mostly smaller clubs...he hasn't exactly been surrounded by the world class talent at Real and AC Milan that Ronaldo has been affiliated with during his post-peak years.

Who knows that Kluivert could have done if he kept playing for bigger teams.

IMO you can't compare Kluivert with Ronaldo. They are on different levels. The first one was a good striker and had some good seasons and the second will most likely go down in history as a great football legend. I liked Kluivert but Ronaldo was smth special.

I keep wondering what that Ajax team would have been like if those Dutch kids had stuck around.....
