Paro: “Close to top spot”
“We’re happy with results so far; perhaps it was down to a drop in fitness but the way we played against Treviso, Triestina and Frosinone wasn’t so positive. We still managed to win those games though, which is a sign of how tight we are as a team; we know how to achieve our objectives.” Matteo Paro, metronome of the Bianconeri midfield, relayed to the press the fantastic mood in the Juventus dressing room. “Having started out with the penalty, and even after the ‘minus nine’, being three points off the top of the league is an enormous satisfaction. Our situation has changed completely since the start of the year and being so close to top spot now gives us an extra boost”. Paro was paired in midfield with full debutant Marchisio for Wednesday night’s victory over Brescia; just forty-three years between them, but for both, a game at the highest level. “Yeah, it was me who was the eldest for once – smiled Matteo – but joking aside, I never had any doubts that Claudio would do brilliantly. It was an important evening, not just for the party and the parade of champions, but also - and above all - for the three points we secured”. The Bianconeri are now preparing themselves for another extremely important game, this time against Napoli. “We’re now concentrating on getting our strength back as it’s going to be a difficult match against a top class opponent, and let’s not forget the unique environment. Playing in front of seventy thousand fans isn’t a problem for us, but it will definitely give our opponents yet another incentive”. As a final thought, the journalists asked him whether he too thinks that Buffon should be awarded the Ballon D’Or. “Most definitely – came the immediate response – I believe Gigi is one of the few players, probably the only keeper, who allows his team to win games just by being on the field”.
