Just Tried Fifa World Cup 2006 and...

Just tried the game and compared to pro evolution soccer 5 I just have to say LOL. Fifa has a nice atmosphere before & during the game - great camera shots. The fans look great but it is a bit too much (there are coloured paper flying everywhere, when you score etc...).

I tried a game on amatuer level thats like 1 or 2 star on Pro and I won 9-0 (think its normal). The feel of the game is just not good compared to PES5. The players aren't like real, and its stupid to dribble past players, I will give it these scores:

FIFA 2006 Marks:
3/10 GAMEPLAY
5/10 GRAPHICS
9/10 USER INTERFACE (Menu etc..)
8.5/10 SOUND

PES5 has amazing gameplay and simply I just can say that Fifa will never reach Konamis level, they have to either join them or steal their ideas. Who says that Fifa is better than PES is just bloody crazy. I can't even believe it when I hear someone saying it or when I am reading it. Ok there are stupid people but c'mon please can't they notice.

All that PES needs is a better look like the FIFA I have just tried (menus are great etc..) The game needs a refurbishment and it will be perfect and have all the teams licenced. It's no problem for us pc gamers but for others that only see how the game comes out and never re-arrange it, it's different.

PES 5 Marks:
9.5/10 GAMEPLAY
9/10 GRAPHICS
4/10 USER INTERFACE (Menu etc..)
6/10 SOUND

i'd say that was a pretty accurate review.i wouldn't call myself a fanboy of either but EA really are rippin' people of with their revamped releases.its all about the gameplay for me and PES wins handsdown in that aspect.

Almost everthing from Fifa WC 2006 is good, but when I want to play a match it's dramatic ( the gameplay & the darkness of the grass) so I don't like the game

The pitch is horrible.

The worst is the gameplay - you can score the same goal more than once in every game; one through pass and your other player is one on one against the goalkeeper.

Thats just right from 9 goals I scored in a game 5 of them were through passes and then 1 on 1 with keeper.

At least everyone has agreed with me till now, so maybe people are noticing. It's just that true FIFA fans find it hard to switch to PES because they want to play their favourite footie game, and are afraid to admit that PES is better. They will stand behind their decision even if FIFA becomes 2D again (lol) they still have something good to say about it and say its better than PES :nape:

Ya I'm a WE/PE fan and FIFA as well, but this game doesn't really excite me at all. Everyone has told me how its not that great as they had expected. What can u expect tho, the gameplay wont change drastically, although I wish it would:(

The reason why 'the switch' is difficult, is because PES5 is much more difficult a game to play than FIFA.

Passing is much more difficult. Dribbling is TONS more difficult. Shooting is totally different.

To play an enjoyable game on PES, you have to master many small techniques, like on-time thru lobs.

Plus, you have a seperate button to switch between players.

You can't score goals using ur Fifa techniques.

The pitch on PES may looking shocking at 1st sight.

The wide camera view of PES is much worse than Fifa's TV cam.

What made 'the switch' much more impossible for many ppl, was that PES5 was exceptionally difficult and annoying in comparison to the other versions. (Now I luv the game, but it certainly gave a terrible 1st impression). SO talk about a Fifa newcomer playing PES5...

Personally, with the arrival of the easy, arcade like WE10, I believe more ppl will go for the switch, without feeling resistance from the gameplay...

Once they pass the initial AWFUL-MENUS shock, they should be fine.

yeah the menus... I mean if a lousy 16 yo japanese graphic designer at Konami dedicated only 30 mins to fix these AWFUL AWFUL menu graphics and fonts.. (The font....the font... the stone-age Sega like font)... He'd be doing the game a serious makeover.

True man, True. Everything you say is correct but that's why we love PES5 because if you know how to play it you will know that it is simply the BEST.

Yes menu & music are awful but there was a slight improvement from PES4 to PES5 in sound, I can't remember the menu sound because it has been changed for ages. I just put a song that I like in the menu like right know I have "Blur - Song 2".

If it will be arranged it will be amazing, even when buying players in master league isn't that good and could have improvements and be more realistic (still I like it because I got used to it)

Bottom line, there are only 2 things that really matter in a football game, 1.gameplay(ai) 2. Ball physics ... And EA's Fifa games don't have either ...

After the usual WE/PES vs Fifa discussion. We WE/PES players have a discussion going on on the weaker side of the WE/PES game. Because as good as it is it's not perfect yet. But still better than Fifa in terms of gameplay.

Yes thats just right, we know that fifa in gameplay is bull****. Hope PES will have better interface because people are getting bored of always the same stuff.

Change is nice sometimes & we want it.

I made the switch to PES after FIFA 2004 and I've never looked back. :ewan:
PES5 was hard at first, but sticking with it has been rewarding.

Of course it's rewarding, the main thing about PES5 is that you don't get that bored, you want it installed always because you get that feeling that you say "I wanna play Pro". I am the type who gets new games and try them a bit and uninstall them, I really get bored quickly but there are certain games that I love and leave them installed.

I mean I have oblivion, call of duty 2 which are great games but I just uninstalled them, maybe I will install Call of duty 2 again beacuse its a great game. Now I have had PES installed on my pc for 2 years (My PC record), from PES4 to PES5 I had to have it installed, its just amazing... The most I have had a game installed was maybe a month or two (battlefield 2, GTA, world of warcraft etc..).

Guys, I must say the truth here, and I mean a full and final conclusion on both games, and believe me that I'm not a fan of any of the 2 games, I just keep looking for a good soccer simulation and realism.

I've played FIFA 06 and PES 5 for over 6 months now, I play FIFA 06 at my house, and when I'm at my friends' houses I play PES 5 (they don't like FIFA in general). Don't argue with me and say some bla stuff on how it's not possible and stuff, I do play both games and I have a 100% perfect view on both of them, and my view got many of my friends shift to the one I thought was better.

See, PES 5 is a great game, but as Beery mentioned it does feel "Arcade" like, in fact very arcade-ish. When I look at my friends and at my self playing PES, all what they shout and think about is to score a goal, and more goals; Even if they change the formation and strategies, they do that only because they read about it somewhere, in other words changing formation and strategies in PES is just like a cheat code, hens the word "Arcade" like, in arcade games you do some exact moves and you'll 90% of the time get the same actions, the same applies to PES 5, for example, when you commit a free kick on particular way, you will always, an I mean ALWAYS (99% of the time) get what you want, I have some of my friends who score 3 or 4 goals in one match just by following some steps on a free kick then scoring a goal.

The good thing about this system of arcade-like is that it has a big fan base; The matches are fast, exact and have a game feel, I repeat "Game Feel".

In the other hand, FIFA 06 perfectly simulates the real world soccer action, either by sound effects graphical effects or with realism of game style. When my friends come to my house and try to play FIFA 06 the first thing they say is "The game is too slow", which is the first response that I get from any PES gamer, and why is that? Because PES gamers got so used to fast "Arcade like" games on PES to the point that anything slower than the PES games seems extremely slow, but when we come to real talk, FIFA 06 has the closest game play speed to the real world, in fact in FIFA World Cup 2006, the speed has been modified to the best of what it can be ever.

I've done some tests on how long dose the ball fly and how the ball falls down in both games, compared both games to real soccer matches recorded on the internet, and the results are way to far from each other; FIFA beats PES by flying colors! Don't believe me? do the tests by your self.

Even the players' movements in FIFA are slowed down to a point where you can think while play instead of just playing pre-thought actions. In PES I use to suffer from changing the Formations and Strategies, because whenever I try something realistic and logical, it gets harder to win against my friends, and of course my friends always do the same formation plans and win most of the time against me. I wonder why?? Funny enough, one of my is like the best PES player in the hood, and for some reason he always uses the same formation set and strategies whatever was the team! e of course always wins! I mean come on, the same formation for Brazil and England??!!! Unrealistic.

In the old days, FIFA was crappy for sure, but now, and ESPECIALLY in FIFA World Cup 2006, I can totally say that "EA Sports is doing a Marvelous job in simulating the soccer game", I mean Player actions, ball physics, graphics, sounds, commentary everything is so perfected with the latest technology out there. I'm so serious and sure about what I'm saying here, and I want from the PES fans to at least try the FIFA game for 1 week, don't try it for one game and say "oh slow", no, play it for one week and I can assure you that you are going to get "Addicted" to it; try out the FIFA World Cup 2006... Unless if you are looking for Arcade-like games, then I prefer for you to keep playing PES.

PES was for 3 years in a row my favourite game ever, seriously. But I've reached to a point where I said "Man, I should grow up a little and start looking for more real world simulation", and in EA FIFA I found the answer, and my god what an answer. But that doesn't mean at all that I'm not playing PES forever, I still do like the Arcade feeling of PES, where I can play fast games with my friends without the need to think a lot, just start the console, even keep the formation as it is and have fun, and when I'm at home alone and need a cool late night strategic game, I head to my PC or Xbox360 and continue a tournament that I've started from a week or so.

The FIFA vs. PES argument will never end, due to the miss-thinking on how both games work, but I want everybody in here to rethink what I've said, that PES is more arcade, and FIFA is more simulation. Another example is the game flight simulator, Anyone who saw me playing it was like "Man, Boring", but that's because it's slow and more realistic, which most gamers don't prefer, instead they'll love flight games such as Ace Combat where it has some realistic feeling, but more arcade like, you do some moves hit some buttons and the game is done.
