I started college last century. :|
INFESTA: When I was your age, I had to walk 10 miles to college, and it was uphill both ways. You young whippersnappers these days think you know it all, with your internet and your ipods and your Justin Timberlake and your skateboards and your American Idol and your XBoxes and Playstations and your Paris Hilton and your MTV and your DVD players and your pirated music and your dowloaded movies and your cellphones and your Facebook and MySpace and your Youtube and your digital cameras, digital this, digital that, I tell ya I've had it just about up to here with your shenanigans!

:p

So no, i dont mean fake, cos i know many people who are fake and have hundreds of "friends", and that aint me, fake people are fake cos they talk to certain friends differently than they would to other friends, dont ever do that, cos its a recipe for disaster once you all get together.

Im gonna get into the states in 2008 and am aiming for Duke (H)

currently doing 2 years here in Malaysia first, before transfering.

anyway, since this is a fitting in thread, I wonder how do people treat Muslims?

Ive always heard normally they get along fine, but they dont hang around since non-Muslims tend to go to bars etc after class and all. thus leaving the Muslim alone.

does this mean other than go for a drink, you guys do nothing? :(

am I going to be sad and lonely? the guy who sits alone doing work only? :(:(:(

1) Get an appartment residence
2) Dress and try to look like white people (not emo or thug wannabes, but regular people)
3) Go out to bars and parties and anywhere where you can meet and talk to people

You do all that and you will love university, just watch how you manage your time. All the social activities are great and there is **** loads of them, but you can easily find yourself behind in notime, just like i'm and the rest of first year at my uni are trying to catch up on like 400 pages of reading. And every week you get more reading and more projects and less time

Well, first of all Duke is consistently rated as one of the most diverse and accepting schools in the country. It's very white, but it's not as white as you'd think.

Yeah, a lot of people drink and I know from experience that Duke is pretty hardcore (in a pussy way) about that too, but there are people everywhere who don't revolve their social life around alcohol. Join a club and you'll be fine.

1) Bad advice for someone who's religion forbids him to drink.

2) I might be in the minority here, but I thought college was easy. And I went to a good school. By the end I was so good at knowing exactly what I had to do to get a B or AB in a class that I didn't go to class and fell way behind on reading, but still did good enough. If you want A's, then you have to work (usually), but if you'll take mostly B's, college is simple. Look, you obviously can't fall behind in a class where you have a reading quiz every week, so you prioritize that and keep up on it (although one class I ditched those entirely and still got a C). However there are a lot of classes out there where you entire grade is 1 midterm, 1 final, and 1 paper. The paper is usually unrelated to the in-class reading. So in other words, you need 4 hardcore days at the most of studying every semester. And another day or two for the paper. I'm not kidding.

1) Didn't know that his religion forbids him to drink. This will make it way harder to fit in.

2) Depends on the school and the program. I'm studying business, which is one of the hardest programs in Canada at my university, which is why i really got to work hard, but then some people take arts at my uni and they have much less to do then me, so it all depends what you take and how hard the school is in terms of study.

Yeah, I think he mentioned that, plus he's a muslim in Malaysia. Just gotta assume there's no liquor.

This has nothing to do with you, but my opinion of business in college will never be high. If one wanted to challenge themselves in regards to finance or something like that, economics seems like the route. "Business" is just like "give me my fluff degree and refer me to the job center, so I can get my sweet corporate sell out job."

I'm going to sell out so hard, so I actually like that part, but it's just not that difficult. Maybe canada is a little different.

Over here its sort of a stepping stone degree. You do business if you are not sure what you want to do. I agree that it's better to do Economics if you want to pursue business.

Business is one of those degrees for which "B.S." stands for bullsh*t.

That's exactly what it is. It took me one semester to figure out how much meaningless bullsh*t is involved in business, so I changed my major. I know you can make good money, but how can you go through 4 years of that sh*t? It reminds me of Eastern European countries under Communism, where you could make a nice career for yourself if you studied Communist theory and got a job in government. Unless you were completely brainwashed, you'd know what you were studying is mostly bullsh*t, but some people put up with it because they'd be set for life.

To each his own I guess, some people just have a knack for business, so more power to them.

No, you don't even get a B.A. or a B.S., you end up with a B.B.A (Bachelor's of Business Administration). In fact, the stigma attached to this degree is so great that the University of Pennsylvania's top ranked Wharton Business School awards a B.S. in Business even though everyone knows it's really just a BBA. But a BBA is such a bull**** degree that they just can't bring themselves to actually award it to their graduates!
