I heard he was cut, just wanted to know if hes a good player.
He's one of the better players in the league's history... although he slowed down the last couple of years. Still a very good player though, it's a shame United cut him. (:/)

I don't think all teams having soccer specific stadiums should be the only thing that will please you. Even in the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL they share stadiums. All of those leagues are the best in the world in their respective sport. I think sharing a stadium as long as it's done right. Some soccer stadiums in the U.K. and Ireland are shared with rugby. It's not THAT big an issue. In fact I don't see many foreigners here criticizing the MLS for where they play as opposed to how they play. Improve the product and everything will progress from ther like it already has as shown by expansion and the success of our NT.

The problem is you have 15k crows in 80k stadiums. It looks like there's nobody there, and with people so spread out there's no atmosphere. The crowd noise can't even be heard because it's not trapped in like it would be at a smaller stadium.

Watch a 20k crowd at Giants Stadium and then watch a 20k crowd at CCS or HDC. There's a HUGE difference.

In Europe you have smaller teams bringing in 10k crowds... in 10k capacity stadiums. And it looks great.

Not to mention football lines once the NFL stars or the ridiculous costs MLS teams are being charged to use those stadiums.

I'm not saying it is currently being executed well or it is a good thing but it can't be the only thing that will make you watch the league.

If I am not mistaken, the MLS has a pretty good record internationally. It doesn't really matter if they are friendlies or not, but I know they do well.

Didn't a Portugese team just come play some MLS teams and get their butts kicked the whole time? Wasn't there a game with a bunch of red cards?

I wish the MLS could play some of those Champions World series games. It's pretty shameful that these teams from Europe come here and don't even have to play an American team. They probably don't want to be embarassed.

I try to support MLS, I really do... but they do nothing for the South. The closest game to me is Washington DC...

So I get bored too... plus the league is quite slow.

I am going to try and find some records... I know they don't lose often to international competition.

Actually you're the one who's mistaken. And quite ignorant and misinformed on the subject as well, I really think you should leave this discussion to people who know what they're talking about and can make objective comments without talking out of their ass.

He is 100% right! It seems that you 've posted in this thread for the wrong reasons. How would u feel, if people start trolling our threads about Greek football and clubs?

i respect the mls, and realise that it is fairly underrated, but i wanna point out one thing......... when you're talking about the portugal game at the world cup, you've got to realise that USA was ranked dead last in WC 98, and Portugal was among the favourites to win WC 02. Very few American players play in Europe, and it is very likely that Portugal did not know all that much about the American team, and underrated them pretty badly... particularly at the start. so it is not really a fair comparison.

but american soccer is growing rapidly.... popularity is on the rise. you have a good league, and lots of money...... i believe it isnt too farfetched to say that America could be a world heavyweight in 20 years time

San Jose beat Sporting 4-1 in a friendly, and the Revs beat Sporting 2-1 I think it was. Also, didn't the Metro Stars get a good result against AC Milan a couple years ago?

So you're basically admitting you don't know what you're talking about and you're just doing this to piss people off? You're nothing but a waste of space.

I just love your line of thinking.

Potiakos: Wait... MLS is American... American soccer can't possibly be good... he must be wrong... so I'm going to declare that he's wrong... even though I don't have anything to back that up

I expect the following exchanges in the future:

shinji: San Jose beat Sporting 4-1 in a friendly, and the Revs beat Sporting 2-1 I think it was. Also, didn't the Metro Stars get a good result against AC Milan a couple years ago?

Pontiakos: You're mistaken...

FLYER: the US reached the quarterfinal of World Cup 2002

Pontiakos: No, you're mistaken

bjmenge: ex-MLS players have twice been named Goalkeeper of the year in the EPL

Pontiakos: Surely you're mistaken!

Go troll somewhere else.

Look I don't think MLS is ****.....it has produced good talent in past 5 years...Donovan, Bisley etc...I can criticize if i want. and that is what i'm doing....my apologies if I do it in a manner you dislike.....the reason I post the way I do is simple....................your pride.......you will never say the MLS is a mediocre league right now......MLS fans always say, its a league on the rise, it shows alot of promise, yak yak yak......

just be honest with yourselves

the league right now is poor, it has produced some stars, it still needs alot of work, simple as that

but nooooooooooooo, your tactics are to distort the truth and to step in the neck of any one who has anything negative to say about your glorious league

guess what....the Greek league sucks...it has two class teams and they end up getting spanked every year in Europe.......you think I don't know this...this has been the case for the last 80 years (with the exception of 71')......unlike you however I am willing to speak bluntly about my country's league

It IS a mediocre league. Nobody is denying that.

And it IS on the rise, precisely because its starting to produce quality players. (WC2002 was a testament to that.)

I don't think the Greek league is poor. Of course they're going to to get beat by La Liga, EPL, Serie A teams more often than not. Being one of the top 10 leagues in Europe for a small country like that is impressive IMO.

Just because a league is not as good as the big four in Europe does not make it poor.

:kader:you can't do it can you:kader:

4 players in 5 years is not a league on the rise IMO, its a league that has just started out ( the first couple of years it was just a disaster), and needs alot of work, it will be on the rise at this pace in about 10-20 years (see back in 2020)....Your country pays alot of attention to coaching and organization of its national league...... that is not an idication of the level of play in MLS ( odly enough my country is a perfect example of this).

in 96 MLS didn't exist and USA reached the quarter finals...proof

they already do that...see some of the threads in this forum about Greece and Greek games......I don't have a problem with in fact I think it makes great conversation pieces.

If we don't talk about these things, and civily argue (I stress civily here) then what are we here to do...blow smoke up each other's *sses?
