Jules Verne

Has anybody ever read anything by Jules Verne?

I think hes one of the most underrated novelists ever. Verne is a fascinating guy. He theorized about planes and submarines before they ever existed. And Journey to the Center of the Earth , which i just finished, is about as a good as an adventure book gets.

I think Verne is indeed awesome. A great writer, and his predictions about things to happen in the future are amazing. He was writing about rockets and submarine's before we could even fly or drive a car.

He isn't really underrated though in Europe.

I read Journey to the Center of the Earth as well... good book. He's not really underrated in Europe though as Maarten said.

Certainly one of the better classic writer. 20 thousand leagues as well as Journey to centre of Earth are very good.
I think Da Vinci was first to think of rockets etc.

Yeah he was, but Verne also described how they'd look like and that was terrifyingly well done, looking at how it turned out. Also his calculations for a rocket taking off we're nearly perfect.

In 4 years of high school, not one english teacher of mine mentioned Jules Verne.

The ideas he writes about in his books are just out of this world.

I've read 20000 Leagues Under the Sea and Around the World in 80 Days. Great books.

Da Vinci came up with all sorts of stuff - parachutes, gliders, helicopters. he was one of the first to study human muscular structure too i think.
