Anyone know what happened to John Harkes? He used to captain the US squad. Best midfielder in the history of US soccer :rockman: He retired before this season. Played for DC United and most recently the Crew. Anyone know what he's up to now?

He hosts a show on Fox sports world called MLS wrap.

Harksey, although he has contributed so much to US soccer over the years, was very unimpressive last year in MLS playing for the Columbus Crew. He wanted to come back and play this year, but the Crew did not want to re-sign him. He tried out with his former club DC United but couldn't make it there either. United did, however, stage a sending-off match for Harkes.

Now Harkes hosts the MLS highlights show "MLS Wrap" along with Sean "I love Harksey" Wheelock. He's been doing an excellent job so far with the show and I think he really has a future in broadcasting. It's great to see former US soccer greats like him and Wynalda getting into broadcasting. (Y)

Indeed it is. They provide great insight into things that regular commentators cannot. I just wish they could figure out a better halftime host than that Veronica chick, who I cannot understand for the life of me.

Sure Veronica isn't that great on the commentary side of things, but she sure is betta to look at then Wynalda, Harkes, or whoever:rolleyes: ;) :p :D

I remember him playing for Nottingham Forest in the EPL some time back.

Don't think he ever played for Forest, but his English career goes as follows, according to MLSnet.com:

Spent his final season in England, 1995-96, with West Ham United, of the English Premier League... Played two full seasons at Derby County of the English First Division, from 1993-95... Made 82 appearances and scored seven goals with Sheffield Wednesday, from 1990-93... With Wednesday, became the first American to play in an F.A. Cup Final, on 5/15/93; the first American to score a goal in the prestigious League Cup Final at London's famed Wembley Stadium; and the first American to play in the UEFA Cup tournament (1992)... In his first season with Wednesday (1990-91), helped the club win the First Division title and gain promotion to the Premier League.

Maybe the only goal against Arsenal that I'll ever like...

John Harkes fires Wednesday into the lead in the 1993 Coca Cola Cup Final against Arsenal at Wembley, Wednesday went on to lose 2-1 in this game.

I dunno... if all the halftime person has to do is say two or three sentences, who would you rather have?

A)

B)

:brow:

The job doesn't really require soccer knowledge as it is right now, maybe they should expand it though so that there's a halftime person introducing each segment instead of Ty and Stoner doing that. THEN I would pick option A) :)

Oh, I'll take option B any day...as long as she doesn't ever try to comment on the soccer being played. I suppose her asking interview questions is okay. Just keep her on camera. :)
