Yup. Here it is.

KONAMI SCORES AGAIN WITH WINNING ELEVEN 7

World's Top Soccer Series Revamped With Stunning Upgrades Including New Engine and New Modes

REDWOOD CITY, CA. - Sept. 5, 2003 - Konami of America, Inc., a subsidiary of Konami Corporation (NYSE: KNM) today announced that Winning Eleven® 7, the latest entry in the company's celebrated soccer series, will be available for the PlayStation® 2 in February 2004. Winning Eleven, known in Europe as Pro Evolution Soccer, is one of the best selling videogame franchises of all time. Last spring, Konami released Winning Eleven for the first time in North America where it was quickly embraced by soccer fans and hailed as the most realistic soccer experience available.

Winning Eleven 7 represents a mammoth step forward for the popular soccer series, with every aspect of the game massively reworked, now featuring 100 teams, 21 stadiums, new player models and key additions to the Master League. Winning Eleven 7 also utilizes an all-new custom designed engine that allows for greater flexibility and customization than ever before.

"The Winning Eleven series is widely regarded as the pinnacle of console soccer titles. Now, with Winning Eleven 7 we seek to raise the bar further by again delivering a supremely entertaining, challenging and visually stunning soccer experience," said Geoff Mulligan, COO at Konami of America Inc.

Upon entering a match, players will find incredibly masterful gameplay, beautifully rendered stadiums and picture-perfect player models. The new graphics engine allows for the greatest level of detail seen in the series. Adding 100's of animations, players not only look identical to their real-life counterparts but move like them too. Athlete facial expressions change depending upon how they are playing and injured players will sport bandages.

While on the field, players will experience the most true-to-life gameplay available, with carefully tuned A.I., realistic pace and balance. When attacking, players will notice a more challenging defense, one that requires a greater attention to strategy and quick passing. Referees are made to look and act more human, playing the advantage in foul situations or favoring the home team.

Winning Eleven's renowned Master League mode continues the trend of massive improvements with an all-new format, and 40% more features over last year's Winning Eleven 6. The competition now takes place within 4 regional leagues. Players will select the region in which they wish to participate and work their way up through the divisions in an attempt to compete in the Champions League. Additionally, the Master League introduces the ultimate franchise tool, a player "search engine", allowing managers to search through the entire league for players with the specific skills, position, contract terms and salaries they are looking for.

Along with its popular cup tournaments, practice mode, friendly matches and a greatly expanded Master League, Winning Eleven 7 introduces a "Shop" element to the game. This feature adds a greater level of depth to the series, allowing players to earn points in training and exhibition games. These points can then be traded for new players, teams, stadiums, crowd effects, and strategies.

These additions plus a robust multiplayer mode and an all new multiple language menu system (Spanish and English) Winning Eleven 7 is certain to score with game fans.

Winning Eleven 7 is rated E for Everyone and will ship in February 2004 for the Sony PlayStation® 2.

Konami has some balls after all! -- Congrats to Konami on making the right strategic decision and competing in the footy market on a global level.

March 11, 2003 was a historical day for U.S. footy gamers -- unfortunately, in the end, only about 60,000 of us showed up for the party.

I hope 2004 marks the beginning a much bigger party and that Konami do a better job of marketing/distribution/promotion and PR.

Oh, I forgot to say, f*ck yeah!!!

"pc support" won't be an issue since you can run a pc game from anywhere on anything (no country codes or anything), but here is the next question. Of course, the PC version (if converted properly) will give a lot more in terms of patches and what not, but would it be that much more helpful to our American brothers to get it from a US store for PS2 instead of a euro store for the PC version? Just wondering, since I think that we all want PES/WE to succeed everywhere.

60,000 units is not a lot of sales but comparing to these other KONAMI sports titles, it looks a lot better. This even for a game that is nothing more than a PAL to NTSC conversion with a few minor graphics updates. (NOTE: The last column represents unit sold.)

Yikes, not the greatest sales figures, eh? Didn't Konami also put out Starting Five NBA or something like that? So yes, in comparision to these titles, WE6:I almost looks like a star.

But we're talking about one of the greatest PS2 sports titles ever released in the U.S. -- certainly top 3 -- only selling 60K, with an inferior FIFA outselling it 5 to 1 or so.

Without us re-hashing all the reasons why it's so, I'm just saying it ain't right, and hoping these stats are gonna slowly but surely start to change. For that to happen, Konami has to release WE in the States...and looks like they are.

i think for we7i to compete with fifa it has to be released earlier. its ridiculous releasing a soccer game 4 months after the others (club football, fifa, etc) are released and expecting to make some competition in the soccer videogames world.
the average soccer gamer is just gunna get fifa and then when they hear about we7 there not gunna wanna dish out another 40 dollars for a videogame of the same sport.

Neutral and I have been saying that KONAMI knows how to make footie but when it comes to marketing, they don't have a clue. PES3 which WE7 International is going to be, has a 50/60 hz selection option. So what you have is a PAL/NTSC compatible already done. Why does KONAMI wait till another 5 months to release the game here in the States? Are they waiting for the MLS season to start? I got news for them, MLS games does not sell that well. Heck, WE6I sold more copies than all the MLS games combine. That tells you that there are more footie gamers in the US who don't care about MLS. KONAMI would be wise to release PES3/WE7 International for Europe and North America at the same period. Otherwise sales for WE7 International would probably be worse because now there is a PC version of PES3 in November. PC is not regional specific so anyone in the world can play PES3 on the PC in November instead of waiting until February to get WE7 International.

This is great news!!!! I got WE6i five months ago after giving up on FIFA after the 2001 disaster. WE6i lives up to the hype. The gameplay is unpredictable and I can never predict the result in advance.

60,000 in sales is not that bad considering Madden04 which is available on every platform and very well known and marketed sold 100,000 in the fist week.

Greg, Madden 2004 actually sold more than two million (PS2 copies alone) in three weeks. Quite a little record-breaker, so puttin WE6:I in the same league (sales-wise) is really stretching it...

...but, IMO, the WE series is as good at doing soccer as the Madden series is at doing football. When WE8, 9 or 10 start selling 500,000 copies in the U.S., we'll be able to say we were there from the start. ;)
