It's not their fault...

it's not the americans' fault that most of them are ignorant about football.

instead, blame it on channels like espn, who think they know what the audience wants. damn espn, they show things like drag racing and log chopping and outdoor games and loads of crap auto racing reruns. instead, i bet if they show formula 1 and a lot more football, americans would get into the sport and be enthusiastic about it. but as of now, they have no chance. it's all espn's fault. espn has the license, but no, they wouldn't use it. they only use it on "espn internationl" (which we don't have). and it's not only espn either, it's also other american channels who are so biased.

GShakan09, you are right to a point. Most Americans don't get exposure to football or soccer as it is known in the States because channel like ESPN don't broadcast them. But the truth is that most Americans find football boring. There are fans out there but not enough for channels like ESPN to broadcast football games on a regular basis. It's all about rating. That's why you have women Basketball and stock car racing. Believe me, there is nothing interesting about watching really tall chick running up and down the court with a basketball in their hand. For the life of me, I don't understand why anyone would sit for two hours to watch guys drive really fast around an oval track. I will watch a football game over any of these two sports. By the way, there are footie fans in the State who are knowledgeable the game. Check out a real footie forum like www.bigsoccer.com and you will find that Americans are not ignorant about football as you might think.

the TV in the US is simply a disaster!!!
if u don't have a stellite, a dish, or whatever u call it u won't be able to watch soccer, but hey.....
u need money too cause its too expensive!
ESPN is the most stupid sports channel i've ever seen!!
last year they broadcasted 2 games in one day for the champions league but now they show only one and the second for the international audience, they prefer to show us drag racing!!
TV is very important for a sport to make it in a country, especially in the US where TV is a very important tool for advertising.
even fox sports world is limited although its a fairly good channel but its not making its way b/c of money hungry ***holes!

cheers

and those ncaa games they show all the time!! i don't care how much you like college sports, but i'm sorry, no college sport should take predominance over the world's most popular sport. shez, you said it. they prefer to show us drag racing and reruns of xtreme sports instead of say, champions league. they misunderstand us!! and i know it's about the ratings, but what i'm trying to say is that if they knew what we wanted, they would get increased ratings. i know that not all americans are ignorant about football, in every country there's the occasional fan, but i'm talking about the general population. i mean, even canadians know much more about football than americans because they get more coverage. for example, in my school, other than me, i don't think there's another avid football fan. and my school is like several thousand people.

oh and one more thing.

americans find football boring, yes that's true. but again, that's not their "natural human instinct" should i put it. why should they be different from the rest of the world?

well, the answer lies in the way they were brought up. they're used to a frantic pace in life, and they're used to very fast and high-scoring sports. aggression is considered manly (hockey, american rugby). therefore, that is why football is considered a "pussy sport" in america.

what i'm trying to say is that if TV showed more football than it'll, i guess, get out of its shell and people will come to accept it more and over time, it'll not be considered a pussy sport but it'll be a sport they'll be enthusiastic about.
