Many old records are hard to compare to the current ones, but Ronaldo should have kept his mouth shut. Show some respect to Pele.

He hardly insulted him, he spoke the facts and if people can't take it, tough. It is true that defenders weren't as with it as they are today, simply because they were some of the first people to see dribbling and tricks and didn't know how to deal with it, so players like best n Pele could do such things.

Defenders today have learnt from their mistakes, you'd be surprised if they didn't learn.

Pele scored something like 1,000 goals in his career, which is quite extreme considering a goal machine like shearer only has like 300-350. Meaning he would have to play his career 3 times to equal pele....

well in a way it makes sense doesnt it? i mean the game has devaloped a lot and defenders back then were not as good as they are now so it is true.

and i dont think he wanted to say that Pele was ****.

I agree with TottiNZidaneR#1. Soccer is much more harder than it was when Pele was playing. I think everyone owes Pele. If it wasn't for him and a few other great soccer players, soccer wouldn't be what it is to day.

some of you get upset by the oddest things.

Bradman couldn't average 99 in the modern world.
Oscar Robertson couldn't average a triple double in the 21st century.
Pele could never be as fantastic with modern tactics.

And face facts all you haters, Ronaldo is up there with the best of all time. He is in the top ten of all strikers ever born, and you all just have to live with that.

What's worse is that most/all of you have never seen Pele play a full match, it's all books and highlights and yet you feel you know it all.

thats true. all we see is highlights but still the defenders back then were not as good as now. they are harder now cuz they have adapeted to the moves that the forwards have been doing over the years and are now better.

OMG you people are so quick to cry. Sheez get yourselves some cleanex and move on. It is very true. In the football world today, there's no one king of football like then. The standard of football has drastically improved and there's many good footballers, I mean sure Pele and Maradona were reaaally good, but you think that Maradona could've done that run against Nesta, Cannavaro, Patrick Viera etc?

To ansrew your question most lickly not. thats what i have been trying to say is that the defender are much better now.

and i didnt know Viera was that good in defendin? i think maradona could go past him.

Ronaldo most likely will become the all-time WC scorer, he has a good chance of surpassing Pele's 77 selecao goals, and he might even win ANOTHER WC in 06 or maybe in 2010. Ronaldo already said that he wants to play 2 more world cups.

Di Stefano, Pele, Cruyff, Maradona, and Ronaldo are the top 5 players of all-time.

Ronaldo is the best player out of Brazil since Pele, and the best in the world since Maradona.

He is the winningest footballer of all-time and he is only 26 Turning 27 soon.

If R9 would have played in 60's-70's he would have scored 1000+ goals as well.

R9 is that talented. I don't agree with Ronaldo's comments but there is some true behind his words.

you can't compare these players, both are/were great in their time. Football changed a lot, only how to know who's better is Ronaldo and Pele same age, same club, same year, only then you can compare them.

Who knows how much Ronaldo scored back then, or maybe he wouldn't even be called up
