1680x1050
1440x900

i'm playing 1280x1024 at the moment, and though it doesn't look to bad on my widescreen panel , the players all look as though they are carrying a few extra pounds, and have lost a few inches off there hieght

Hi.
To me the exact opposite happens. I have a 19" TFT and the native resolution is 1280x1024, but this makes the game look a bit strechted in height. My players are all a bit higher and thinner that whats supposed to be.
I know that the equivalent to 800x600 and 1024x768 is 1280x9260, but even if i put that resolution its the same. Whats the matter? Is it that 19" tft monitors are not exact 4:3?
When i see a movie its ok, there are little black bars on top and bottom of the screen, making it a 4:3 (if its a 4:3 movie, of course), but in games everything gets a little "taller" than it should be, not just in PES, of course.
Is there a way to fix this? Or people with 19" tft's can't do nothing about it and have to play always like this?
The only way i can play without this problem is to play in windowed mode... but that SUCKS!

As you very well said 1280x1024 isn't a "normal" resolution like 1024x768 or 1280x960... It is "taller" than those resolutions, and that's why you see the players stretched.
1280x1024 is actually 5:4 and not 4:3. The only thing I guess you can do is adjust your monitor so it has little black bars on top and bottom, the same size it has when you play movies... That way the players will look right.
It's by no means a perfect solution, but it should work :P

f@ck me!!! Never thought of that! But thats it, hehehe
gonna try now

thanks

Edit:
damn, it doesn't work. In this modern TFT's there's no option to shrink the height
