IT IS IF:

the goalkeeper can't see the ball from the player who is in offside position (is in direct line with the player). No matter he doesn't have contact with ball. He blocks keepers' view and that's OFFSIDE.

Right, but I'm talking about when the player's just behind the last defender...it doesn't happen often, but it IS irritating.

Quite funny that people at a Football/Soccer forum didn't realise that EA have the rule right. It is clearly offside for anyone that watches the game!

I'm fairly sure my girlfriend understands the rule better than half of the guys posting here! :p

Oh, PS. I taught my girlfriend at the pub with a 'beer mats' vs 'beer glasses' live demonstration on the table, with my mobile phone as the 'ball'. Maybe I should have recorded it and put it on youtube for you guys :p

If any part of the body is behind the last defender and the ball, its offsides.
I believe the rule specifically excludes arms though. The idea being that only if parts of your body that are permitted to play the ball are offside can you then be called offside.

Except that being in an offside position, in and of itself, isn't illegal. It's only illegal if you interfere with play while in said position (shielding the keeper qualifying). EA has it so that, ON OCCASION, a forward outside of play who isn't interfering with it is still flagged for being offside. Technically, he's only in an offside position, which in and of itself isn't illegal.

wow. 4 pages...

you are offside if the attacker is behind the last defender when the ball is passed to him.

OR

if the attacker has the ball past the last defender (example: 1 on 1 with keeper) then all other attackers must be behind the ball when being involved in the play.

so yes BOTH OFFSIDE!
