Is this a bug or...???

I was playing world cup, passed the group with 3 smooth wins, went through, played Turkey in the first round, shooting about 20 times, Turkey only 1 in the whole match, and I only managed to score in the 28th minute of extra time, for a 1:0 win. In the second round, I beat Czech Republic 4:0, easily. O.K., third round, against Ukraine, took 23 shots, Ukraine only 1, and off course lose in penalty shootout. Now, all this wouldn't be so unreal and so annoying if I haven't had about 10 one-on-one situations, hit the bar and the post about 6,7 times, in both 'unlucky' matches, against Turkey and Ukraine! I've done all that without a single yellow card playing with Cameroon, which is least impotant.
Here is my question, to anyone: Is this a bug or is it a matter of pure luck? Are there matches that 'cannot be won', no matter how well you play? I'm not so sure, because there are things and situations, out of those 20 shots that I score from usualy, in 90% of the normal cases! My other friend is complaining about the cpu cheating, not letting you score in some matches, and he says that it keeps going on! I mean, so many one-on-one's, so many shots from different angles and range, from which I usualy score-nothing, hit the bar, hit the post, goalie dives miraculously, saves everything! What's wrong?

I do find that I don't score all one on one's with the keeper. The problem I find is that I go steaming through holding R1 which causes me to overrun slightly and by the time my player's caught up to shoot the keepers in his face and he's not going to beat him then.

So I started to R1 it until I get close then let go of R1, unless there's some defender's closing me down. Sometimes I then turn to face the open side of goal and let a low shot off. 7-8 times out of 10 it should go in, barring the player mis-kicking the ball or a defender getting me. But if I don't turn to face the open side I get a lesser success rate.

To be honest it's not a bug or anything similar, it's simply that you are not good enough at finishing. That's not meant to sound rude - I just remember when I got the game that it took me forever to learn to shoot. Now, though, I can generally finish 1 on 1s. Just imagine you're in a match in that position, and think where you'd shoot.

Usually, as Matthias said, you can simply pass it into the net with a short tap on the shoot button and a direction (either far or near post, that's usually up or down on the d pad).

The other options are 1) smash it 2) chip it or 3) beat the keeper. All are fairly easy once you get the hang of it, especially number 3. It's only worth smashing the ball if you're not confident that 'passing' it into the goal will work. Chipping is useful when the keeper charges out. For this, you have to learn how much power to put on (usually just under half of the power bar works for me). To beat the keeper, simply run WITHOUT springting up to him, then turn (pressing sprint makes it easier) just before he dives.

But it all takes practice...

I assume you're not playing PES, or if you are it's on a low level or a long game - coz that's a lot of shots!!!

And I'd also add, avoid doing the same thing a lot. Generally your options are:>
  1. Tap a shot along the ground
  2. Go for power
  3. Chip It (This needs practice and is best with a skilled Forward). Judging how much to tap [] is the most difficult part - too much and it balloons over the bar, too little and the Def will get to it.
  4. Press [] + X to dummy the shot then shoot - in PES this is only useful when VERY near the keeper.
  5. Go wide and cut the ball back in - if the keeper has gone with you it makes the other players shot that much easier. It really does pay to not be selfish in PES and ISS PE. Whether in this situation or opting for the header down for the assist rather than a long range header at goal etc.
  6. Take it round the keeper - possible in PES but MUCH easier in the previous games - move slowly towards the keeper then hit R1 + Diagnolly towards goal on the D-Pad or Stick. Another method is using the tapping L1 fient whilst approaching the keeper then R1 + Diagnol.
In PES the R2 dribble allows you to do a half step back and move to the side, I've not tried this one on one but I certainly will give it a go.
    [/list=1]

ISS PE2 will give you a much higher return in 1-1s but PES allows you to be more creative.

- after playing over 100 PES matches it seems to me that great forwards like Henry, Batistuta, C. Lopez, Owen, Raul etc... do the shot fake exactly when the keeper is close to them even if I press shoot+pass a short time before. in other words they seem to delay the execution of my task to do it at the right moment instead.
this is no illusion! me and my friends experienced this in about 90% of the 1on1's with great forwards!
I love to do the shot fake and get around keepers for a shot on open goal and i often use it successfully!

Personally, I don't like the fake shot move for 1 v 1 situations. 1 v 1 I either chip or low shot to the side of the keeper. To do either you have to take a deep breathe know where the shoot button (or chip if you hold L1) is and tap it. Low ground shots are a sure way to score, except of the keeper is too close to you. I just look at it this way, style points don't add to a goal. That is why peple don't like B. Munich. They are not the most attractive team to watch, but hey! what they do works, right?

PS: When you tap the shoot button (especially for a ground shot) You shouldn't even see the power bar pop up, it is just a delicate tap.
