Is "Professional" that much harder or am I just bad at the game?

I started playing FIFA '09 when it came out on Semi-Pro with Professional keepers. Slowly, this got to be too easy, to the point where my Liverpool team in Manager Mode was simply not fun to play with (I want to be challenged). So I figured I'd quit that franchise and move over to Professional difficulty with World Class keepers; at the same time, I also decided to play with Wolverhampton and try to get them promoted.

Long story short, I'm all of a sudden terrible at pretty much every aspect of the game. Is that something that I'll just get used to, or is the difficulty difference between Semi-Pro and Professional substantial?

The game is really easy. Professional level is very poor compared to fifa 08.

The problem of Fifa 09 are difficulty levels. Are too easy. If you play with a great team ( Man U, Barcelona, Liverpool, Madrid, Chelsea, Milan, Inter, etc ) is more easy. With a poor team is a little more hard, but not much.
It's a shame. Fifa 08 is really much harder and challenge in all difficulty levels. Keepers are much better in Fifa 08. Sad true.

Yeah, the keepers are pretty poor in '09 no matter what difficulty.

I think I'll tough it out and see what happens, I probably just suck at the game and need to get better anyways.

If you play with a team less that 3 star on world class or higher it is a challenge

the rest of the levels and matches are really easy especially using 5 star teams

Yeah, I don't know why EA SPORT decreased difficulty levels. I really don't understand. If you can come back to play Fifa 08, you see a big difference.
Fifa 08 is really much harder, challenge and better Goalkeepers. No matter which team you play. I think, we need a patch to fix this.

Cheers.

Yup its that you play too much with good teams.

Even on this game playing with small teams is just hard. Its because you can't just run past everyone like you would do with torres :bob:

I've noticed that; it's MUCH harder to just work into a scoring position. I'm wondering if maybe I'm better off playing my Grasshopper franchise on the level I'm used to instead of making the game's AI more difficult AND my team worse, then getting the hang of that and upping the difficulty level.

yup. usually, what i've done is start at like semi-pro difficulty with a terrible team and every time i get promoted (or, if you're really good about it, for every cup game against a higher level opponent), crank up the difficulty setting another notch. that way you get a whole season to improve, but just as you're starting to get good enough to run up a ridiculous scoreline, the season ends and you have to start the learning cycle all over again.

Try the second patch on WC. As for the keepers, if they made many more 'Gordon Banks v Pele' saves, there would never be any goals!!

The goal keeper level is probably what made the game seem harder for you.

As for me... well, I think World Class difficulty is too easy. Not keeper though.

Agree. For me too, even with the second patch installed. It's really a shame.

Yeah, I struggled for a couple seasons in the Swiss Super League with Grasshopper; I'm getting to the points where I'm ready to jump teams, since I just did the double in Switzerland.

I still have problems with certain smaller teams (BSC Young Boys and Aurau always seem to give me problems), but I kind of like that. My players are better, but their team formations somehow confuse me more. It's fun.

I find Professional to be much harder than Semi-Pro... mind you, I use teams like Bolton and Bradford City... some really weak teams are giving me a footy lesson. I'm using the mouse controls which are totally new to me though, so that helps to add to the steepness of my learning curve.
