Invalid MS-DOS function?

After my xp got corrupt i lost all my files, so i resorted to my only back up of a dvd-r but no files are copying over to my hard drive with the error message "Invalid Ms Dos function". I really need these files so has anybody got any idea how/if i can fix this?
