yeah I've really been wanting to do something like that but the reformating is trouble :(

antivirus really slows the comp down.

btw, no one mentioned bit defender yet? most sites say its the best.

Bit Defender is a bit confusing to set up for most intermediate users...also you need certain special options to be selected inorder to scan ALL the files when you say "Scan my system" or else it doesn't get them all. But the customer service is top class...I tried it out and when I had a problem registering, a representative had a solution in less than 10 mins...although some people don't like the hassle.

And there are more than a few programs out there that DON'T consume much RAM at all!!!! Really, they should be a must.....

I use Kaspersky Anti-Virus these days on my laptop, since NOD32 was quite a heavy resource hog... But I still think NOD is the best if your comp can handle it.

I think KAV is more exacting to the resources than NOD...

If you did infact use it on your lapbop, how much RAM did you have installed? That would affect it significantly.

so do i... i actually use that as an excuse for my laziness (uninstalling nod32, installing kapersky, etc.). but if kav improved on memory usage, i'll have no excuses at all.

btw, i use zone alarm pro + nod32 basically. also both my modem and router have firewall enabled.

edit: hm, just read the summary from av-comparatives. for me it's actually a surprise, thought kaspersky would do better.
