I havent been here in years. Im an old stalward from the days when Winning Eleven was the obvious better game. Basically, when that series wtill had its magic. Its since been lost, sadly, in my opinion.

Just seeing how many other converts there are. FIFA '08 really is something special this year.

I'm one of those. Last Fifa I had really played was Fifa 04. Tried a bit of 07 last year and it wasn't bad/ Tried o8 this year and loved it. Been playing Fifa 08 ever since.

PES has gone backwards... I've always used both games, but after seeing PES08 I just left it well alone.

Well, I guess I'm neither...

I started playing FIFA when FIFA WC06 came out for PC. I played the crap out of that game until 07 came. At first I liked 07 but then I grew tired of it...the AI was just idiotic, kits were horrible (that was before the time I found out about this site)...

Anyway, fed up with 07 I bought PES6 for PS2 to try something new. And my first reaction to that game was WOW!!! It was soooo realistic! Everything about it was great, the physics, AI, players, kits, stadiums, everything!

So, I was really excited about PES2008. I thought PES6 was the best footie game ever, so how far would PES2008 go? When I first played PES2008 I was pretty much disappointed. Everything seemed to have gone backwards...I swear I played about 5 games and ever since I just played PES6.

Now, I recently got a PS3 and decided to buy FIFA 08. I have to say it is EXCELLENT, but IMO is comes really close to PES6 gameplaywise. The graphics are great, etc....but I think PES6 still has the best gameplay...

So this is my final thought: More or less, both footie games ths year are crud. Ok, I Love FIFA08 for PS3 and play it A LOT, but when I think about it it's still crud.

I really hope in 2009 EA will continue making radical improvements, especially to other features (like manager mode) and keep improving the gameplay. If they'd do all that THEN they would be the Footie Kings. As for PES I'm still hopeful. Even Konami wasn;t happy with PES2008 so I hope they will completely scaro everything and redesign PES2009 from scratch. If they really try and focus then I do believe they can overtake FIFA09 easy.

Well there you have it...those are my 2 cents! :)

I'm like Styphelus. I sort of went back and forth between the two. I started out a Fifa fan but had never played PES. Then I tried PES 5 and was convinced that it was the better game. I hadn't played the next releases, but I got lucky this year and bought Fifa 08 just to try it. Love it. I have to say I'm "re-converted."

man i am really trying to like PES2008 but every time i play it i just get so annoyed i want to put my fist through my monitor. It's soooo annoying to play. The AI cheating in it is so rediculous it's laughable.

I think what FIFA have done is look at what Konami do gameplay wise with PES and have tried to make FIFA 08 somewhere closer to that.

EA were really fighting a losing battle before 08 came out and they've definitely incorporated aspects in the game that are similar to PES. Lets face it, PES is/was streets ahead of FIFA so they had to do something. What they've done is pretty good. For me it has the look and feel of PES 5 which was a great game. Obviously they haven't ripped off the title but the game dynamics and even controls are somewhat similar to that edition.

Combine that with the licences and presentation/SFX that FIFA have usually had the upper hand in, and they've developed a really good game now.

It's up to them to build on it now and make 09 even better. The battle between Konami and EA is going to be interesting in years to come...

Credit to EA sports though, this game is a huge success and now Konami's position is under threat.

All EA has to do is buy all the licenses. That's what has been selling their game. People don't want to play with fictitional teams. Even when PES had better gameplay, Fifa was still outselling it.

Sure the hardcore gamers like PES for the gameplay but casual gamers just want to pop in a game and pick their favourite team and play for a bit. Even I missed playing with real teams when i was playing with PES. It's a huge drawback.

Plus EA is the largest gaming publisher. They have tons of cash. There is no way Konami would ever kill the Fifa series unless they somehow manage to pay more for exclusive licenses.

Take their Formula 1 license. When EA had it, they were pumping out a new Formula 1 game every year. When they lost the license to Sony, they killed the series, rather than release ficticious cars and teams.

But I doubt that would ever happen with Fifa given what EA has done for the game of football since it started in 94. Fifa itself would be foolish to take the license away from EA. I know people who never liked football and love the game just because they started playing Fifa.

I see your point but FIFA is actually available in more countries than PES so that also helps.

Gameplay wise, PES absolutely pissed all over the FIFA titles before 08 came out. There's no doubt Konami were/are the winner in that department (the most important one of all IMO)

Now finally EA have actually produced a football game that is half decent....

I love PES and 2008 is great. FIFA has all the licences and has definitly upped its gameplay this year but I still think it falls slightly short of PES...

i picked up Fifa 08 for 360 the other day because i got fed up with the cheating AI in PES2008. Unfortunately, Fifa 08 AI seems to cheat almost as much. ie. 50/50 balls almost always go to the CPU, ref does not call clear fouls that CPU makes (i just finished playing 3 games in a row on professional and the cpu was not called for a single foul), and the cpu can pluck the ball from your feet with impunity. Of course, i could just suck ;)

Overall i think PES2008 has better graphics (especially the crowd) and nicer animations, but Fifa is a much more polished game. I'll probably be playing more FIFA than PES this year, but i have to say i am a little dissappointed with both so far.

"Better graphics than the 360 FIFA ? Man, are you crazy ?"

LOL! He must be drunk to say such a thing. Or maybe he's playing in a very small tv and can't tell the difference.
