Just imagine spelling Chinese or Japanese players' names in their languages...or at least Greeks and Russians...lol
BTW,yes,Cruijff is one of the legendary players in world football scene.
For example, the Chinese player Sun Ji-Hai from Man City is actually 孫繼海 then. :p If u cant see the Chinese characters, u have to change the encoding to Traditional Chinese (Big5) :P

Cruyff/Cruijff is always a legend no matter he won anything or not and no matter what the spelling of his name is. ;)

Don't be so anal. That's the correct Dutch spelling, but the more common English way is Cruyff, like Van Nistelrooy and Van Nistelrooij. It's not that big of a deal which way he spells it.

here here :)

And i think so if he won a world cup.

But then again in most sports around the world this is also the same. Many players who are equally as good as other stand out players are not recognised because they didn't play in a winning team.

tragic but that is football and sport. :boohoo:

I rate Cruijff/Cruyff as highly as I rate Pele Maradona and Beckenbauer... the simple fact that he didn't win a world cup doesn't mean he was any better or any worse than the others.. the same way I don't rate Romario higher than Zico

Where?

Anyway (most) Asian languages are a diffrent case since they use totally other symbols than the normal English. But Y and ij isn't such a big diffrence and it should be spelled the right way: Cruijff.

Di Stefano didn't won **** with Spain, but he's one of the greatest players of all-time ;)

He was injured in the World Cup in example.

He won 5 Europeans Cups (5 champiosn league) :-)

Cruyff does get the recognition, he was a fantastic player...everyone knows that.

Georgie Best is the most underrated player ever because he was equally as good as Maradonna, Pele and all the rest of them but because he played for NI (who might aswell not attempt to play football to save embarassment) he didn`t get anywhere near the recognition he deserves. Too bad he turned to booze.

Let me think about this with the portuguese point of view:

If Eusebio had won 3 world cups he might have up there with Pele and Maradona. But he didn't the rest of the team wasn't nearly as good as Brazil's rest of the team.

If Figo had won a world cup and european cup with Portugal he might have been bigger than Zidane. But he didn't, France > Portugal at that time Thuram, Desailly >>>>> J. Costa, F. Couto. It doesn't really matter, Zidane was the one that shone in the WC final and that scored the penalty that kicked us out of the EC.

If... if... if...

Probably true but there's no if's in football, there are facts and you just have to live with them.
