The fact that he gets up and walks away like nothing happened makes him a total cu*t in my eyes.

Agree.

Oh and sure he said he is sorry but what did you guys expect, him to say haha Mendes take that ya ****. Its a typical thing to do so he can get a lesser punishment.

Thatcher should get a 15 game match ban with a stiff fine. those kinds of challenges have no place in the beautiful game obviously if ur a rugby fan or Amr football fan than that challenge was nothin but u forget the fact it was a cheap shot which he didnt expect, Rugby everyone is expecting hates they moves as they are bracing for impact and when u brace for impact the damage isnt going to be big , but thats RUGBY this is FOOTBALL, no need to compare its diff sports, with diff rules, its idiotic to compare Rugby with Football. Rugby players are trained to take hits , football isnt :kader:

like ive said, i hope he's banned for a huge amount of time. Prutton got a 9 match ban for arguing with a ref last season.

Tell me about it, if he hadn't been banned we might of stayed up - he was at his peak at the time.

**Oh and he got banned because he pushed the ref**
(still didn't warrant 9 matches though :()

Ok, so first off I'm can't care less about ManU, City or any other english club, so don't even come with the petty argument that we're trying to have a go at any club.

Those blokes are a disgrace for football and sports in general. Giggs and Mendes are their co-workers - they all share the same job. I honestly can't see myself doing anything that could jeopardize the career of anyone in my office, and that's how these incidents should be looked upon: as attempts to ruin someone's career.

Those trying to play this down just because Pedro and Giggs walked away, well, your children will likely have Down Syndrome. But good luck, eh. (Y)

Thats nearly as bad as the Harald Schumacher challenge , the FA are a joke if he doesn't recieve any further punishment.

The video seems to show a different view, he went in on purpose of taking Mendes out ( and he did that quite well too ). The way he gets up and looks like he is about to elbow the other guy (looks like he yells at him) who is going to help Mendes. Should see a good ban ( 10-15 games at least ) with a big fine.

you have to remember though, Thatcher's a dirty **** ON the field, as he was after the incident. but after the game it's a different story. breaking news:

Manchester City have suspended defender Ben Thatcher following his challenge on Pedro Mendes.

The City full back has been condemned from all corners of the game following his clash with Mendes, which left the Portsmouth midfielder unconscious.

Thatcher was initially booked for the incident, so it was presumed the Football Association would not be able to take action - one reason why City have taken it upon themselves to suspend him, meaning he will miss this weekend's clash with Arsenal.

City have stated that Thatcher is suspended from all first-team action until their own internal investigation is completed.

The FA, though, have also announced that Thatcher will indeed face a charge of serious foul play.

In a statement, The FA revealed they considered the incident serious enough to warrant a separate charge.

"The incident is being considered as an exceptional case because The FA contends that the challenge was sufficiently serious that had Thatcher been sent off, an additional sanction would have been merited," said an FA statement.

Thatcher has until September 12 to respond to the FA charge.
