depends on wetha ur goin for 747 or 939 AMD chipset.

i'll do it in euros
lets start with a price for a typical standard case. say 50
a good mobo ~120
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ - 120
1 gig DDR RAM - DDR400 with decent CL - 200
Creative Audigy 2 zs - 80
Radeon 9800pro - ~200max
DVD ROM - ~25
CDRW - ~30 (also u could go for DVD-rW for about 70)
Floppy - 5
160Gig hardrive -100 and SATA
onboard gigabit ethernet
with a little extra to be spent depending on your needs for wireless
and USbs there should be 4 standard on the mobo, and 2 extra optional avaliable either from there or your case.
not more than 1100 anyway
(add +100 to get the same things but for 939, and just a little extra more to get a gfx card at the same level if the 939 mobo you choose has PCI-E instead of AGP (6600GT))

that money for a year ago sound just like it should be. (tho bargains have crapy mobos). If u want to sell it expect getting much less than £1100. Half the price and even less. Unless u can find someone not so clever to sell it to

I would pay no more than £300 - £400 (about €700?) for that. If it is an Athlon 64 and not XP maybe £50 more tops. You can build a A64 3200+ / 1gb PC3200 / 6600GT system for about £500-£600 brand new.
If you're building a new system and you can wait, it'd be good to save up for the dual core Athlon 64's coming out end of this year, as your rig is still a very competant gaming machine.
If you were to update, something like a DFI Ultra-D (socket 939) with a 3500+ winchester, 1gb RAM and a X850XT / 6800GT would be amazing

I'd get an amd64 4000+ with SLI and 2 6800s2gb ram, Audigy 4, with 2 10.000rpm sata hdds the new DL plextor DVD-RW and... *slaps self* *wakes up*

Psh, 4000+ is a Clawhammer core. Why not just get a 3500+ and some GSkill and over clock it
Sod it, lets just forget SLi and get a FX55/X850XTPE combo. SLi doesnt make that much difference, plus you could get the 512mb version of the X850 when its out for an uber-single card one. Not to mention sound and heat produced by two 6800GT's!

sound = no problem, as.. if i was gonna get such a system i'd get watercooling
and the 2 sata HDDs wud be working JBOD (2 hdds seen as 1 and writing at both HDDs at the same time with2x performance gain)*Reality check*
