One has to wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing...Filipower;2638159 said:hahaha that was my first thought indeed, but to be fair I know that Brazil isn't just Rocinha and such lol..
heh, you don't know what you're missing! City of God is set on the 70's and 80's... things have changed a lot since then (and I'm not saying it's a lot better now...)Run DMB;2638177 said:I thought Brazil was all ghetto... probably because my only exposure to Brazil was the movie "City of God."

Kibe Kru;2637995 said:it surely doesn't look like Brazil at all, eh? just kidding... SJC is 80 km away from Sao Paulo. A good city, close enough to Sao Paulo, close enough to the beach, close enough to the mountains.... and home to the mighty "Sao Jose EC".... actually, I think this is one of the only brazilian cities where the local rugby team is much more capable of winning stuff than the local football side...

Of course it's not, the whole idea behind the favelas is wrong, getting the poor people separated from the rich, and all that. But there's a sense of community in there that's absent from most other places in Brazil.Filipower;2638841 said:I know what you mean about people from the favelas, I'm not saying there in any way "worse" people, but the whole idea of crime corruption and poverty just doesn't quite struck me as a nice thing...
I said it to people before, I'm not sure I've posted it here... Rio is a very nice place to visit, but not the place I'd like to live in. Make sure you visit all the tourist spots, but don't miss the Lapa nightclubs. If I was still there I could show you some places, but I'm sure you'll do fine. Just don't do a Ronaldo, and you'll actually want to be back for more....ShiftyPowers;2638846 said:I'm actually thinking about going to Rio next winter. I had like an hour long chat with some venture capitalist that owns Swansea City at LAX the other day and he TOTALLY convinced me to go to Rio when I'm still young.
Funniest part, I mentioned "football" and he's like "I own a football club... you've probably never heard of them though." And I'm just like "Obviously you have no idea who you're dealing with right now." It was pretty sweet; kinda wish I got to chat with him a little longer actually.
