How do patches work?

I'm new to downloading patches and all that stuff so I'm wondering how do you make a patch appear when you play. Do you just download it or do you have to copy and paste it in a folder or something?

I do believe there is not real answer. All patches are different. Some you replace files in. Some you install and some you gotta take help with other programs to install. It depends on wich patch you are going to download and install. A wise thing to do is reading the manual for the patch after downloading it.

Ok, thanks for the help. What is the best patch for WE8. I want one that just gives EPL teams and NAT. teams the correct uniforms.
