How did you all get on with PES then?

I was only one month into ISS2 fer PS1 when PES came out. So a bit of a noobie (was a fifa-slag).

One year on, I eventually kicked level 3's a*se, though I had built a good team to do it.

I'm a couple of seasons into level 4 now with half a team and I'm struggling like mad.

I still haven't mastered the 1-2s and find the chipped pass so unreliable that I keep the ball on the ground most of the time. I don't trust the through ball either unless it's into a mile of space.

However, and credit to the game, I'm a far better football manager now. I understand the practical differences between say 4-4-2 and 3-5-2. I can see the benefit of fresh legs at key times and keeping your shape at ALL times.

PES2-wise, it will be interesting to see how the new tranfser system works. Also, the 3 league system, but then I'm not sure once I dug myself out of the bottom whether I actually got relegated; my team just got too good by then.

it took me about 8 months to be level 5 worthy and win the ML on that level. that's the great thing about it. the longetivity. i mean, which other game you play consistently for 8 months or even longer?

on the other hand i have to say (and that's my personal impression), that level 5 was not much fun anymore and had not very much to do with real life football. it's just too fast and increasingly robotic, the CPU plays unbelievably good (regardless of team), you have very little time to set up or plan your play. sure, it's dependent on your level of expertise.

many say, that even at level 5 the game is too easy and they score 5 goals. i mean, i have not reached that point of expertise yet (my highest victory in ALL the hundred+ matches i took was Arsenal-Marseille 4-1 !), but i am getting a little bored by PES. when you play it for so long you start recognizing patterns and flaws which even a game that great has. some of them (like the "pushing from behind foul", and the fact that the behavior of your players is uncontrollable when the ball is loose) are getting increasingly on my balls (pun intended). i am also very tired of the repetitive commentary....

it's time for PES2 to come around. damn, still 5 more days...

do you ever play with friends? I have about 5 friends that come over regularly and we have a blast. It helps break the hint of repetitivness and every game is different. If you just play against the AI all the time, surely it get's boring.

70% of my time is playing against a human opponent, and the game has not gotten even a little boring.

ps. I did get a 5-0 victory and won 2 first divisions on extreme level. It's never boring, sure you have slow drawn out games, but you learn ways to beat the tough defense, create space, angle runs to evaDE DEFENDERS FROM BEHIND ETC. iT TAKES WEEKS AND WEEKS TO MASTER.

LOL I have two football-friends who come once a week.
Then we play by turn against the CPU ( so 2 human vs the CPU; I have only two gamepads).
I more then once asked them to play each other and against me, but they refuse because they aren't that good, playing once a week and they know I play every day.
I can't convince them to play against me, so I only played vs the CPU as well :(

unfortunately not very often... most of my friends are not into console gaming, let alone computer gaming.. they consider it (ahem) childish... little do they know... it sharpens the senses, makes you relax (at least sometimes ;-)

i have to agree (after 2 or three times playing against a human) that it's an entirely different game. but mostly the guys i played against didn't know PES and never played it and it was too easy to beat them.

i also agree that it takes weeks and weeks to master (as i said, it took me 8 months to get barely along on level 4), but still think that KCET should investigate other ways of increasing difficulty rather than just punping up the speed and the CPU perfection. one such thing could be, to keep on "analogizing" things the higher you get, until on level 5 everything would be totally up to you. sort of like a racing game, in which you turn off assists, once you master it.

anyway.. New Zealand... that sounds like a dream...

If none of you play against mates, then I can understand how you keep finding flaws which aren't evident for me. NZ is not a dream man, it's ok., very sloow and boring.

Han, tell you mates to stop being pussies and play 1-1, where's their competetove spirit? None of my mates have it, 2 of them play in the top division here in NZ, skilled soccer, semi-pro's players that think WE6 is so real it hurts. They play just as well as me now, takes you about 5 days of playing to become competetive with someone who plays heaps. Good luck, it's a whole new exciting world. It would drive me crazy if I didn't have mates, we had 6 man tournament Saturday night, emotions ran wild, I came 3rd, one point behind and goal difference was poor :(

ah well, next week :)

LOL! You are right, but they don't own a playstation, so they can't practice those five days to become competitive. They are too busy to visit me more then once a week (also on Saturday, like your friends :) ).
But I can try, saying they are pussies :D

haha... again a clash between vision and reality it seems.

BTW, that i am nagging about PES every once a while doesn't mean i don't love it. but i think you have te be open in order for things to evolve...

that said, last night, after overcoming boredom i had the best match ever: Arsenal vs Real (me being the latter): lots of close misses, posts hit, missed opportunities. up and down. then Ronaldo tips a RC cross in in minute 78... i thought that's it... but come injury time fcuking helguera tackles the ball right in front of henry's feet and the french hammers it home. the imaginary roar literally shook the house.

twas one of these PES magic moments...

Well it depends...

On 5 and 4 star it requires my full attention... Takes a toll on the head after 4 hours straight...

2 and 3 star I do play as chill out football... When I arrive home tired from work, I have a few games where I just like to kick the ball around...

No hard feelings at all man, I confess that I'm also very opinionative and can be narrow minded at times...but we're all human :)

And constructive criticism is always welcome, one of the first things I'd blast Konami about is the Croatian shirt, WHERE'S OUR CHEQUERS !!! Croatia needs to play in the traditional, not that red crap they pass off as our sacred shirt, then I'd tell them about all the other inperfections :)

The only good thing from Crotia is Tudor... :rockman: (My Juve ego is on a high)

Nah I'm kidding with yeah, I do agree that the shirts should all look at least 95% of what the team wears... ;)
