Seems like a good idea to me. Newcastle can widen their marketing in Asia and i assume from the article that we can send our older or less experienced players out there and we get there bright talent. Hong Kong United, would probably have the same kit and crest (With HONG KONG UNITED insted of NEWCASTLE UNITED) as Newcastle (Like they were proposing to do with Newcastle in Australia, but they wouldn't change kit colours). Also Gazza, who voiced his hope to play for Newcastle again would probably be a major first signing. As he would, basically be playing for Newcastle. Thoughts?
Freddy Shepherd confirmed that Newcastle are forming an alliance with Chinese League side Dalian Shide to form a new club, Hong Kong United for next season.
It's a story that we've featured numerous times in the last 18 months but it seems that deals have finally been struck to give Newcastle a foothold in the Far East.
The move is likely to revolve heavily around merchandising with Newcastle also expected to have first refusal on any promising young talent emerging from the other United.
It also begs the question has the word "United" already been trademarked in that part of the world? We presume the phrase "Hong Kong Army" is already owned by the local government....
