Hearts is keen to play a Scottish Premier League game at the MCG next season, according to reports in the Scottish media.
The Edinburgh-based club has been in negotiations with Melbourne–based group Tribal Sports Management as a means to raise around $1.2 million for the club.
"There is a proposal before the SPL for Hearts to play a home fixture next season in Australia," a Hearts spokesman confirmed to The Scotsman. "We are looking at either August or possibly January, which would also allow the clubs involved to have a mid-season break. The proposed opposition at this early stage is Celtic."
A clash with the likely Scottish League champions would go close to packing out the famous ground, which is currently undergoing renovations ahead of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, reducing its capacity to around 60,000.
Former Hearts player Dave McPherson said full SPL committee approval would be needed to stage the match.
"There have been negotiations with the SPL but it still has to go to committee and then hopefully be approved. That’s essentially what we’re waiting for."
TSM’s interest in the match stems from the company’s base in Edinburgh and its involvement as manager of Hearts defender Patrick Kisnorbo.
"A few years ago I didn’t even get a reply, but I think Lex Gold has done the SPL a great service by examining the proposal and recognising just how advantageous this could be, not just for the clubs involved but also for the league as a whole." Lou Sticca, managing director of TSM, said.
The proposal would have to go to a meeting of the 12 SPL clubs with the usual 8-4 majority required for approval.

What do you guys think?
I personally think it's a great idea... BUT I cant see it happening especially with the 8-4 approval required for it to happen!
