Imagine if Real sold FIGO, Mlorientes, Gutti, Solari and McMannaman. Zidane could be done in maybe 2-3seasons....that would leave Raul, Ronaldo, Portillo, Beckham and Makelele. Would they have to buy some more "Players of the YEAR" at that stage with the cash from all those sales or would they go back to the youth? They could end up just having to buy and buy and buy and buy to please the players they hung on to. I guess there' s nothing wrong with buying and buying but I would' ve thoiught that they would ' ve been remotely interested in having some kinda youth system that is OH I DOn' T KNOW----------> PRODUCTIVE AND USEFUL !

Totally True! That's what Man U did and i think it works. When they won the treble most of the squad was homegrown. They had quality homegrown talent combined with the needed "foreigners" (for lack of a better word) that made the TEAM (something i don't get from Real btw) solid.

Beckham's sponsorship contracts require him to wear a 7 on his shirt. That is why there was originally speculation that he would wear 77. Coincidentally, Raul also has sponsorship deals that require him to wear 7. (I don't know why that is stipulated in these deals, perhaps because 7 is considered lucky or good for adverstising. Anyway, it just is.) Since Becks has to have a number between 1 and 25, that only leaves 17. Right now, Pascual has it (according to previous post), and I don't think he will have a lot of say in whether he keeps it or not. At the start of the new season, I think Beckham will have 17 and Pascual will have to take one of the other free numbers.
