The midfield isnt getting any younger but being old means you're ****e now?

It means that the midfield is declining and they will have spent a bunch of money on players that will not be productive or worth anything in two or three years.

But they'll serve Boro well for this season, that's what i'm talking about. They'll need to replace them in the future, not now.

Yeah i get your point. Still, on paper it looks like a good team. Their striker partnership is kinda old, but they're good players (Viduka has a ****e attitude but he can score when he wants to).

Thats an impressive team that could possibly (like Viduka said) reach a CL spot next season. Though they should buy Hargreaves to strengthen up the middle.

They are not spending all their money now, they spent a total of 4.5 million for Viduka, and Reizger and Hasselbaink were FREE. They are in great financial shape with Gibson as president.

And Viduka is not a fat unachieving player.. he is a proven goal scorer.. and with injuries and a bad leeds team last season but still put in 13 goals 4 more then Boro's top scorer last season. They will be solid this year.

Maccarone is in way a starter with Viduka and Jimmy up front, but I like him alot and he will get his chance.. he is only 24.

So, you wouln't have the best defensive partnership in the last two Premiership seasons in your team? Zendi and Mendi both showed they still have what it takes and Franck Queudrue must be seriously knocking on the door of the French National team by now

Just out of curiosity, who is your team?

Some people in this thread just don't want to admit that there is new competition in town for the upcoming premiership season. And who gives a fuck about 2 or 3 seasons or what-have-you for M'Boro. We're talking about now, the present.

They will be a mid-table team at best. If Newcastle actually play to their potential and don't muck it up against teams like Blackburn and Leicester City then we could easily challenge for the title like we did two years ago. We are younger, we are more experinced playing with europe's elite teams and most importantly we score goals.

In my honest opinion a back four of Dyer--Woodgate--O'Brien--Bernard is better than whatever four Boro throw out there.

I don't understand why everyone is getting so worked up because Boro has a bunch of washed up international players in the midfield and one good striker. This team will finsh in 8th place if they are lucky.

Why would you have an attacking midfielder at left-back and a left-back on the right? Their back four last season couldn't hold a candle to the Mills-Ehiogu-Southgate-Queudrue combination, which has only got stronger with the arrival of Michael Reiziger; your back four is about as reliable as, well, Titus Bramble. I was at both Tyne-Tees derbies last season, and on both occasions we played the Geordies off the park, but suffered from the age-old Boro problem of not being able to stick the ball in the onion bag, and we undeservedly lost both games as a result.

To be truthful, Newcastle are not really a team of goalscorers as 99% of their output comes from Shearer, who is, as we all know, in his last season with the Barcodes. If Sir Bobby doesn't find anyone to replace Shearer by next season, then the rest of the Premiership will be busting out the KY on you.

The complacency of Newcastle fans regarding the Boro is apparent to all during the local Century Radio phone-in, especially after our Carling Cup success ("it's not a major trophy" springs to mind  ), but hopefully this season we can finally answer our critics at last, and give the cocky Barcodes a run for their spondoolies

Dyer is going to play right back this season. You know the same postion he got his first England cap for. And I don't know what games you were watching for you outplaying us because what know is we got six points and you got none.

Also you must of missed Ameobi and Bowyer towards the end of the season when they picked up the goal scoring slack last season.

All I remeber last year about Boro was all the empty res seats at The Riverside and Boro getting rapped by Arsenal like 9 times last season. You guys can all go back to breathing your crappy air and leaving us alone.
