Does anybody know Hamit Altintop? He is a new player that Schalke just signed this season and so far, this is what he has done for the club. First of all though, I would like to say that he is only 18 or 19 years old and has a twin brother playing in Kaiserslautern who is 10 minutes younger. They are both Turkish.
In his first game for Schalke against Dortmund in the Bundesliga matchday 1, he got the ball and ripped a shot from 30 yards out and blasted it right into the top right corner. Then in the second half, he got the ball at midfield and snuck his way through two or three midfielders. I knew he would shoot and he did. From 28 yards out he shot it right into the bottom left corner. Right there I knew that Altintop is a soon-to-become-star.
Then he had another Bundesliga match which he didn't play the full time.
After that Schalke played in the InterToto Cup and during a game, a cross from a corner kick was cleared by the opponents and the ball came back to Altintop who was behind the 18-yard box. He took a shot and scored.... AGAIN!!
Last Sunday, Schalke played against Cologne at home and it was 1-1 in the 92nd minute. This would be Schalke's third draw in three games. Guess who prevented this? You guessed it, Altintop. He scored a goal in the 93rd minute and won the game for Schalke 2-1.
What do you think? Will he become a star for Turkey? And how soon?
He also said that he wants to qualify with Turkey for WC 2006 and go as far as they can!
