Ok, I think this deserves a more detailed explanation. Now that I have more time to type, I'll try to make clear why I dislike the Brazilian national team.

First I must make absolutely clear that I like the country. I really do, even though as Grunger would say, it's a bit f*cked up at times.

That leads to another thing. We have problems. Lots of them. But the people don't seem to care about that if the NT is winning. It leads to situations like "My 14 yrs old daughter is pregnant and illiterate, but what the hell, have you seen Ronaldinho?" or the much more common "I can name the 1958 World Cup winning side off the top of my head. What? Who I voted for in the elections last year? I uh... forgot."

If the country was perfect, I wouldn't have a problem with the NT. After all, it makes people happy. The thing is, sometimes people shouldn't be. Happy people don't change things. Right now, we have a crap government (not that the candidates in the upcoming presidential election make me feel like it can't be worse). But what the f*ck, Brazil just beat Australia!

The talk in the streets isn't one about a major revolt on prisons orchestrated from within the walls through cell phones. It's about Ronaldo being fat. Or Ronaldinho playing better for Barca than the NT.

If someday the NT fails miserably, I hope we'll see improvements, since the people won't be distracted by football. That's why I want them to lose.

Of course it isn't that simple, though it would be a start.

I smell some (lots, actually) of "complexo de vira-lata" here :mexican:

I think in a player by player comparison England and France have better teams than Brazil. It's probably Ronaldinho's best player of the world award that gives Brazil the edge on hype.

The edge on the hype comes because we are basically world all stars FC, really. You look at the names and you see it. Not to mention we bench the likes of Juninho, Fred and Robinho. France being better player by player than us? Oh please.

England could be another case, but i still see only 4 players starting on our side: Robinson, Terry, Rio and Gerrard.

...still they manage to beat everyone. :( That's actually how good they are, folks. Argentina is the only team that, actually, can beat Brazil. But do you guys remember the conf. cup? :nape:

I'll tell you Korea's story. It was the late 90s, and the economy was f*cked from expanding too greatly in such short amount of time. The people are losing their jobs, and the country is living off of IMF. Life was pretty hopeless at the time (reason why my family left Korea), but one of the few motivations that the Korean people had was Chan Ho Park. Park was a pitcher in MLB, among the few Asian players who were playing at the time. In fact, he was the only Korean of the Asian players, rest being Japanese (Nomo, Irabu, Suzuki...). All of Korea saw him as he charged the mounds against some white guy (Tim Candiotti) to defy the always-modest Asian stereotype and as he clocked at the upper 90s to prove that there were such thing as an Asian power pitcher. He instilled pride among us Koreans, and his adversity is one of the main factors that Korea credits for its recovery.

Now, I know Park's double digit wins and almost 1:1 K/IP ratio had nothing to do directly with how Korea got up to where it is today (slightly ok). However, it did bring a lot of people together, and that alone was pretty powerful enough to have people sacrifice for the good of a nation (exchanging every bit of gold, immigrating...). I don't favor nationalism much, but the good kind (like this one) I think is fine.

I respect brazil but they only won these games because they are brazil. I think teams go againts brazil thinking they already lost. It doesn't help that everyone automatically said brazil would make it first out of this round without seeing them play.

How come he doesn't deserve it? Have you forgotten that is the guy who had two terrible knee injuries that made everyone say his carreer was over when he was by far the best player in the world, only for him to be the star of a WC afterwards?

He doesn't deserve it, Gene, because I am a Bayern fan and a casual supporter of the German National Team and therefore Gerd Mueller is untouchable to me. Plus Brazil's president dissed Ronaldo (H)

I tell u guys my present story, India the second fastest developing country in the world don't give enough money to the football team to buy unbranded Studs!!!!!!!! No ****in maintance of any stadiums...Ohh Wait there isn't anything called football stadiums in India!!!! But Sachin Tendulkar (Cricketer), gets trillion dollars just to wear that small pepsi or mrf logo on his Tshirt. And our great ****ed up govt, they don't give any ****in money for training or to buy a ****in original ball, they play with that ball which has a tube in it and can break ur ***in leg or even head if u try a header but still they have money to buy those ***in ugly HIV positive whores and spraying tobacco spits all around!!!!!!!!! Our football players don't have enough money to buy toilet paper and hence use their bare hands to wipe their asses. I wonder what will happen to the team when Biachung Bhutia retires?!!!!!!!!!

Oh my oh my Ronaldo, more proff that he needs to be gone this summer ( well I doubt anyone will take him now ). You know for a guy who was resting himself for this WC and always saying in interveiws that he will show his best at the WC, he is doing horrible.

Hopefully Robinho plays more now, how did he do btw?
To start, Ronaldo has the same going on as Rooney only worse because he didnt play for a longer time (well, only against those teams as New Zealand). But still i think that most of the guys on this forum just say that Ronaldo is the worst because everyone else does. They dont see or dont want to see that Ronaldinho was also horrible and Adriano dissapointing. Actually Ronaldinho should be bashed more then Ronaldo because he plays great for Barca but when its the NT he plays bad! He was totally invisible today.

And now to go to Robinho. He was fantastic! The moment he came in, Brazil started to flow! He was the one that makes most runs. He was too fast for the Aussie defense. With the ball he was great like always! I think that he deserves a spot in the first 11! But I also want to see Ronaldo break that Muller record, because he deserves it after all that he has made trough!

No disrespect to Croatia or Australia, but Brazil are going to have to step it up, otherwise we'll be seeing an early exit for the world champions. Better opposition will make them pay.

He deserves it? When did Ronaldo score 10 goals in a single World Cup?

Youth Team
first ever post so i feel full disclosure is needed to show where my undeliberate and at times deliberate bias is:
national teams i support: U.S., Brasil(Brasil when they play each other)
club teams: Sao Paulo FC, but i follow all european clubs that world class brasilians play for barcelona, madrid, milan, inter......you get the idea, with that out of the way

Ronaldo is not fat , i repeat Ronald is not fat, Rosie O'donald is fat you could tell if you watched brasil in pregame warm up with sleeveless shirts on univision that he is just not MATCH FIT lacks stamina and maybe a little depressed.
IMHO Brasil always starts the WC group stage slow by design only expending energy necessary to win the game yet never defensive to gain form and chemistry, some times that effort is good for a blow out some times not but usually 3 points, but teams that play brasil are allways at 100MPH even in friendlys cause for most teams their goal is to reach the knock out stages every thing else is bonus, but ignoring what coaches tell the press most teams in europe and ALL teams out of the continent (except Argentina/Brasil)have no real chance for the final unless a greece miracle happens. you can tell by watching Ronaldinho play the past games that Perreira who knows how to win a WC is tacticaly saving especially him and the all the forwards for the next round because they played a ton of club games (champions league) maybe the genesis of this brasil bashing lately in here comes from the pre-WC great build up, anticipation, and ultimatly disapointment then resentment that Brasils forwards so far and also will against Japan, played in 3rd gear for both games except Kaka when needed (by design) not destroying teams at 100MPH pace. Maybe its FIFAs pre WC hype-machines fault.
saying all that Australia(defensive not to lose) and Croatia(offensive to win) played hard with heart and determination, Australia where even more impressive given their lack of talent relative to Croatia but they played close to if not their maxim potential angainst Brasil. People need to put things in the right context because all of the sudden people write like Viduka is Henry and Kewell is Eto . And Ronaldo doesnt deserve the right to play to regain form and chemistry with Adriano and the rest of the offense , i say he earned that right and hes not done or over the hill hes only 29 hes not even close to being fat Ronaldo and Adriano are built like running backs(NFL) he was 10lbs over weight in madrid but even that wasnt fat. Star Jones is fat Al Roker is fat , people act like he doesnt have enough talent or done anything for futebol and for brasil to give him time at least till the next round when the WC really starts fo Brasil, but then again what do i know :boohoo: .......

I agree, but only Argentina (against SCG) together with Spain were way better than Brazil so far. Netherlands (yeah, 2 wins but not as much as I expected :nape: ), France (totally sucked!), Czech Rep. (nice game against USA...then Ghana), Italy, Germany (1-0 Poland, and I predict 1-0 Ecuador next game), England (sucked!), Mexico (not very impressive at all), Portugal (1-0, 2-0) dissapointed imo. Ecuador, Sweden don't seem they can actually beat Brazil, Argentina or Spain at all... But that's just my opinion, diss me if you will... Brazil is Brazil, you know, and I respect them but I'd love to see Netherlands-Brazil playing the final... :read:

I don't know about you, and I concede that I'm not world class, but I don't know how I would play at 80%. I mean I do, but I don't know how I could actually win playing guys who are decent. When do you decide to just let them have a particular ball and when to go fully for it? I have no idea how a player could play a style in which he holds back. If Brazil was resting players, I could see how they are resting up, but they are out there with the A Team.

It's understandable that they're tired or that they just haven't gotten into a groove as a team yet, but they aren't looking sluggish because Ronaldinho is out there saying "I'm just not going to try hard today". He is a professional and I guarantee that he does not know how to do that in a competitive match. You know Michael Jordan won't even let his kids beat him at Candy Land, he's always focued in on competition; don't tell me the Brazilians are any different.

Let's see if Brazil will still suck in the next round... i think that they will play much better against the "big guns"...

Other thing: in the Confed. Cup, Argentina was without Crespo (their main striker), Messi (arguably their best player), Mascherano (their best defensive midfielder), Ayala (their best CB) and Burdisso (very good defender also)... also, Javier Zanetti was in the squad, but he barely played... but Brazil had all the artillery at their disposal, except R. Carlos and Cafú, but they weren't missed, because Gilberto and Cicinho had a great tournament, and i think they did even better than the former two would... so, that's why Argentina was beaten 4-1 in the final... but with their current line-up, i really doubt that would happen again...
