Details still coming in, but it's definitely him and he's definitely dead.

Almost ten years on since 9/11 and finally a semblance of justice. Very much a symbolic gesture as in truth Bin Laden's personal ability to cause a threat has been negligible for some time now, but still a great step forward, both psychologically and physically. Whether this causes a downturn, or a temporary resurgence of terrorist activity remains to be seen, but either way, a great day for all in the west and for all opposed to mindless terrorism and violence.

You pricks, cant you just be pleased that we finally got one of the worst mass murderers of the 21st century?

Totally and utterly different. Osama Bin Laden is the individual known to have masterminded several terrorist attacks, including 9/11, and it was this individual that was killed by the country he attacked. This is justice. Pearl Harbor happened 60 years ago, under a different Japanese government and as part of a war and by no means the responsibility of all the Japanese people, then or now, and to consider the earthquake, caused by nature, as an act of justice is abhorrant. The reactions are by no means the same and your point is cheap and ignorant.

Everyone knows this, Osama Bin Laden started off fighting the Soviets in Afghanistan and for this reason was on roughly the same side of the US, in an 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' kind of way. However, he subsequently shifted the focus of his hostility to America and the west, and his targets from invading Soviet soldiers to innocent civilians in other countries, and from that moment shifted to our enemy. What he did before he became an active and violent enemy of the West is completely irrelevant. Your point is worthless.

It actually matters now?

Not like his death can potentially cause an uproar by the terrorist groups towards America... but good job I guess.

This justifies everything that has happened over the past 10 years.ex. all the:
1. waterboarding
2. interrogation techniques
3. translation experts
4. translation experts to verify the translation experts
5. Guabala-Nabala Bay prison/island
6. overlooking of the match-fixing culprits and allowing them to win the most prestigious club tournament on Earth
7. "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson going into acting
9. touch screen devices to make you horny 24/7 when you touch them

Adolf Hitler was buried under a parking lot. U___________ was buried at sea. The purpose you ask? To avoid a martyr's shrine...a place where people could come and visit.

It only took:

500,000 dead civilians
3,000 dead soldiers
War in four countries
Occupation of 2 countries
Out of control government spending
Sacrificing our civil liberties
10 years of fear mongering.

America: **** YEAH!

I don't know why anyone would take to the streets and march well past midnight on a Monday morning to celebrate this, but I get the excitement. Every negative comment done by a non-American, btw; I hate to pull the "you don't understand", but as far as all things 9/11, you don't understand. Anyway, I'm relatively ambivalent over the whole thing, but can't see this anything other than a positive.

Find it very odd that he was living in some posh suburb; mountain man freedom fighter of the people is a myth? Shocking.

A refreshingly sensible viewpoint for this thread. I'm more than ambivalent, but then I'm right wing and patriotic.

And skiptomylou, of course there's fear of reprisals, but sooner or later this had to be done. Furthermore, judging by the behavior of other Islamic extremist groups, it is very possible that the power vacuum left by Bin Laden's death and the plethora of potential new figureheads without a clear front runner may result in infighting and power struggles further undermining Al Qaeda's credibility and potential threat. Also, it is very likely that information siezed from the compound will be used to capture or kill many more high ranking terrorists - if that information is anywhere, it will be here. Finally, the convenient correspondence with the Freedom revolutions across the middle east may do wonders for the impressionable but not yet radicalized members of the Islamic community - simultaneously seeing the death of the figurehead of Jihad ideology, and the success of protest and revolution, combined with the west abandoning many of the dictators, may well cause a rapid decline in terrorist recruitment and interest from exactly the kind of people which are key to suicide attacks.

All taken together, we could be in a time of tremendous progress for the middle east and the islamic world.
