My opinion is that, if Australia HAVE to play a playoff, then they should do it against Asia. COMMEBOL and CONCACAF are just too far away and it will affect the player's fitness.

You might have a point about the travel and fitness but certainly the qualifying could be pushed back (i.e started earlier...there's 3 years to do it!) to accomdate this one last group phase to determine who makes it out of all these "on the cusp" teams. FIFA could surely do that. It would be much more fair and each confederation is represented. Nobody said the road to the World Cup should be easy especially for these teams... they didn't finish at the top of their region so they will have to travel and beat teams from other regions to claim their spot. If you give Oceania an automatic bid it will be just that (easy) for Australia. This would provide a cross confederation proving ground for these teams to earn their spot and make sure the best 32 teams are in the WC.

I don't know... if it interfers with Club football it would be very dificult to get it going. Also, a neutral ground should be established, no point in flying around the world all the time if you can just locate it in one country.

Hmm Mikasalo32 lets see. Australia a continent in its own right. Nearly 20 million people. New Zealand a small country 1/50th the size of Assie, 3.5 million people. Even when they played Uruguay at home, their only goal was a penalty...congratulations. I was really hoping Australia would be in the WC. If they let in 1 goal against, uruguay, I would have said, well, Ireland did the same so big deal, we will go to extratime and then penalties. If they let in 2 goals, i would have said, well, you know that hostile crowd atmosphere, it can get to ya. But they let in 3 goals, and I say they dont' deserve to be in the World Cup.
This in MHO is hypocritical. I keep hearing Australia beat France..you know what that's GREAT!!! Spain did it too...and they repeated that kind of form in the World Cup Qualifiers. Chile did it also...but they did not play like that during their World cup Qualifiers = they dont' qualify. Australia is the third team...they didnt' use it for their WCQ's frankly cos they didn't need it. If you can beat the WC Champions, what the heck is wrong with beating Uruguay to go thru to the finals? huh? If you guys are that good (you can beat the world champions, great!), why can't you beat Uruguay, who hasn't been to the WC since forever?

I was reading the paper a couple of days ago to come across an article saying thet OFC has proposed a plan for OFC and the Asian confederation to join (i alredy knew that) but what i also found out that Australia would also be entered into the Asia Cup, that will give Australia plenty of match experience, and we will really be able to prove how good we are...
