At the end of a season when negotiations start you have 1 week to pick up players who have "0 Years" left on their contract...and there appears to be no transfer fee. It essentially seems to be a 1 - time bidding war on Salary. :confused:

Am I correct? Will there be no big transfer fee down the road? For good players this means saving 10k odd points right off the bat. Do you guys recommend trying to out-bid teams for great players (who'd otherwise cost an arm and a leg right off the bat). Players like Roberto Carlos, Fortune and Figo have popped up on my radar.

Yeah totally. Pick up free transfers when and wherever possible. I would reccomend also picking up players even i they dont quite fit your playing style or whatever as you can sell them on for profit at later stages. I picked up Duff, Solskjaer and Nesta on free transfers.

You actually have two windows to pick up free transfers -- second to last negotiation period and the first week at the conclusion of the season.

It's easy to outbid and get any free transfer you want. However, you're stuck with paying those high salaries for the next 5 seasons or so, unless you can turn-around and dump those new acquisitions off to other bidders, as bye bye fifa pointed out. This seems a less effective strategy in WE7:I than it did in WE6:I -- at least on default acquisition setting.

But if you actually want the players, it probably saves you big $$$...even in the long run, right?. Most players you'd pay 2X as much in transfer fees as you do in salary over 5 years (I think).

BTW, do you only pay players who play for each game? I've noticed that my Cost points per game is almost constantly in flux...I can only assume that is because I change my lineup constantly (to keep up with those blasted arrows :f***: ). Do you pay maybe half salary or something when they don't play?

That said, I'm not too worried about salaries. I paid less than 300 points last season per game (I paid over 500 in div. 2 :p ).

I had several Japanese/Korean/Chinese players (the best ones) as backups.

I had/have players like Ortega, Nedved, Doni, Arce, Chenalt, Tudor etc. Not a bad side.
