Freddy Adu- The Future of American Soccer

This kid is being touted as the next Pele in America. He is 13 years of age and already playing with the American Under 17 naltional team. Inter Milan apparently also tried to sign him to their youth team but didnt succeed. Manchester United is currenltly first in line to sign him. He was given his American citizenship and passport a few weeks ago ( He is originally from Ghana).
Many people were skeptical about his age, so the US Soccer body sent some investigators to Ghana to find out if he is really 13 years old, and it was found out that he really is.
The kid was interviewed and said that he is mature in his game because at home (in Ghana)he used to play in the streets with adults and that forced him to really improve and become quicker to avoid hard tackles. ( He is right thats what u need)

What do u think about this and do u think he'll even make it into the National team or Manchester's first team in the future

they showed a video of him on ESPN a few days ago and man that kid does NOT look 13, even though its been proven he is.

if he really comes along quickly in the pro game and plays well, maybe we'll see him representing us in 2006!

No way is he 13.

Anyways, my favourite part of the article is "The American media have compared him to the likes of Pele". Is this the same American media who could only find 1/8 of a page to report on USA's world cup progress?

Come back to me in 5 years. We will see how good he is then.

this kinda reminds me of when both Raul and Ivan de la Peña were coming up, both were supposed to be Spain's bright young future.

i guess 1 out of 2 aint bad.

It's impossible to compare him to Ronaldo though. Ronaldo until 16 was a goalkeeper.

Michael Branch, Danny Cadamarteri e.t.c they were all supposed to be big talents...

Pele was a genius who played in a totally different era of the game where the style of play was different. Ronaldo plays at the highest level of football and is world class. Ryan Giggs once said in a magazine article that it is foolish to compare any player at amateur level to a player at the professional level, which is true. Maybe the kid is good, but he should be compared to those in his age group and measured against those standards. He's the biggest 13 year old I've ever seen, but they don't grow 'em like they used to, lol.

There has been so many fallen talents come and go though, thats why its hard to believe hes going to be as good, if not better than Pele. He will need to move to Spain or Italy in order to fulfill his potential, I can't see the USA getting the most out of him.

Yeah i read about him earlier. Its to early to say anything really. I dont understand why he wouldnt go to Inter.I think he would have a better chance at becoming a star at Inter.......lucky lucky kid.

When will you realize that the media doesnt determine the talent of a team. And if the media is talking about this soccer player, then it must mean something good.(im not saying he is the second coming of pele)

Sorry, I never knew the American press were so high up in the world of judging potential talents. (:/)

Give him 4 years, then come back to me.
