Forza Motorsport really is the complete racing game. GT4 may have offered more modes such as photo but Forza is all about the racing and it shows in a big way. Forza Motorsport probably won't sell as much as GT4 but it deserves to and could easily be not only Xbox racing game of the year, but Racing game of the year period.

Customization, handling, presentation, AI, damage, multiplayer: Forza hits the bull's-eye time after time. Although it doesn't have quite the bewildering range of cars as Gran Turismo 4, Forza is its equal in gameplay, its superior in AI, and adds the online play GT4 lacked. In gaming, like in business, innovators rarely dominate the market they create for long, and Sony's got some catching up to do.

Let's dispense with the predictable comparisons in a couple of paragraphs. Forza Motorsport is as close to Gran Turismo as you will find on Xbox. Only better. This is not a statement to make lightly, and its coming from one who has an unabashed adoration of the powers of Polyphony Digital. GT4 is the benchmark by which console games are measured, yet on virtually every metric worth counting bar a couple, this game exceeds it. This is the new high water mark for console racing.

After playing Forza for the better part of a week and neglecting all sorts of editorial duties, it's definitely hard to go back to the offline, bumper car physics world of Gran Turismo 4.

To break it down into specifics, here are five reasons, in no particular order, why Forza may very well take the simulation racing crown for 2005:

PHYSICS
CAREER MODE
AI
ONLINE
CUSTOMIZATION

this game looks amazing, but it's not for PS2 :( so I guess I'll stick with GT4.. only 8.8% done so I guess I can do some more :p

I played this for a bit (2 3 lap races, to be exact) at my cousin's place earlier.

Pretty damn good, but that controller ruins every single game on the XBOX. :(

I'm gonna get this, the last time I took the time and money to buy an Xbox game was like August of 2004. :ewan:

Looks solid, with variety of the types of driving simulation.

The Japanese Xbox controllers are better than the American ones. Just get one of them, much smaller...although it's still no match for the genius that is the PS2 controller.

That's incorrect, QuikZilver. The S-Controller was made soley for the Asians/Europeans at first, because they generally have smaller hands than us Westerners. Anyway, the S-Controller now comes standard with the U.S. XBOX.

HUh, I was just trying to say that the S controller and The Duke Contoller are great for racing and shooting because of the trigger. Much better than pressing on a button or moving a joystick.

Uhm... Europeans are really not that different to "us Westeners" :p

That's not what you said in your previous post, Quik.

Yeah, you're right. I mis-read the article. Asians only, not Europeans. :p

i only wish the ps2 controller had a better directional button, like the ones on some controllers by sega (e.g. japanese saturn and the 6-button version for mega drive).
