But the one thing I've noticed, or maybe it's just me, players on crappy teams just react much slower in the game. They're very weak and get pushed off the ball easily. And by halftime, some of my players are so exhausted that I must sub them out or they will be dead meat in the 2nd half.

When I use any of the top teams in the game, it seems like the flow of the game is much faster. Everything is quicker, not just for the star players but for the entire team. I guess this is the way the game is designed.

With Den Bosch, It seems like all of my players move around as if they were in quicksand. That's why I'm wondering just how in the hell anyone can beat a top team with a garbage team on 6*.

The reason some players get tired by the half is probably your tactics. I play with MAN U, and by the 60th-70th minute, my wing players are really exhausted, unlike the others. As for your players getting pushed away, that's because they're just not as good. You will notice that it's much easier to get through a number of players with Rooney than it is with say... Andy Cole, and that's because he's faster, stronger, etc. It just makes a big difference if you have quality players on your squad.
