Well done Shifty, I'm in 2013 now in my Chelsea game, might put up some pics later.

Do you still play Drogba btw? He's still very good in my game, consistently scoring for the Coast.

I started him the first two games of the WC, but he just wasn't producing, so I replaced him as starter with a regen who had better stats. The defense was a rock though: Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue, Hamed Diomande, and Yaya Toure in front of them. Just nasty. Then I used Soloman Kalou in the same role I have Marquinhos in for my Shakhtar squad. I had the choice between Ivory Coast and Cameroon, and I picked Ivory Coast because they could play my 4-3-3.

I also got really lucky that Messi and Tevez were injured for the final.

btw, keep it going Shifty, I've heard FM09 is hard but you seem to be doing just fine

Here's what I've found, if you have a great tactic it's going to get figured out eventually in the league. But in Europe, and in Internationals, a great tactic will be great forever, because teams just don't pay attention enough to crack it. It's amazing how many times I would fail to score 4 games in a row domestically, and then crush big European teams 5-0.

If you play in Ukraine you don't have to worry about the league cracking your tactic because your team is so far superior to the rest of the league

And in all fairness, I do cheat to find the best regens, so that makes it a little easier.

I knew some players acted unprofessionally in some amateur clubs and missed training but that's a bit much.

With that in mind, could anyone explain to me why only a few of those titles count for the Hall of Fame thing? According to that, I'm only a mildly successful manager, instead of the total legend I'm supposed to be. Also, why do0n't Chelsea like me? I've done more for them than anyone in their history, and I'm not even in their favorite people list, but Mourinho is.

Also, anyone know what to do with good old-timers? I've got Carvalho, Drogba and Lampard in and around the starting XI, but they're 35. Several plkayers are over 30, and are still very good, and have been loyal and helpful. I don't wanna sell them, because I don't need the money, and really like them. I also have the back-ups in the reserves and on loan, but because they're still performing well, they're not getting their chances. I had to sell Delfouneso because he would never get to play at this rate, despite being a good talent for the future. So, how can I encourage these guys to retire?I'd love for them to stay on as coaches, I('ve already got Nedved, how can I get them to decide to hang their boots?

It's impossible to get into the legends list in FM 09 (some bug that never got fixed), this guy took Salernitana to the Serie A, won UCL about five times, gets into the final each year more or less made them the richest club in the game etc and is not even on favoured personnel.
About getting players to retire it probably might work if you play them less then they will announce retirement as they will then see their careers as over.

Do you declare interest in other clubs? Maybe that's it I don't know. I don't think I've ever been a Legend, but I got onto the Steaua favored personnel in one game.

I've had the old timer problem a few times, although my player loyalty rating in the long term always will trend towards 0. I'll sell anyone for the right price, especially when the regens start coming along because you can always find a free Uzbeki kid who's ready to leave his homeland and be a superstar. But when I really want to keep someone, I'll usually just let their contract run out around age 34/35. By then their stats should be low enough that they won't just up and sign for a rival. I've never had the problem with a keeper, because you'd have to play so long for one to actually start getting worse. Think I signed Carrizo on a Bosman when he was 35, and he was still class for years.

Nope, never declared interest in any job, actually rejected offers from rivals and stuff.

Thing is, I can't let them run out their contracts because they're good enough to sign for a good rival. I'll just see what happens towards the end of the next season.

Really? I had Drogba on my team in the 2014 World Cup and he was garbino.

I play with one striker, and Huntelaar is my starter, with Bojan as the 2nd choice, because I want him to develop. But Drogba is the guy I put on the bench in tough games, and he usually delivers. 15 goals in, off thye top of my head, 25 appearances, mostly as a sub. He would be a starter for any of my rivals barring City who have Love and Obasi, and still, he'd feature a lot.

I've also head that Lampard can still go strong at age 39. Is it possible to offer a player a coaching job during their playing carreer? Other than Carvalho, they all want to be coaches.

yes, I know in FM08 it was possible at least. by the way Vagner Love is a ******* beast and he always signs for my rivals, any league I'd be in.

At some point you should be able to change the role of a player from "Player" to "Player/Coach" or just "Coach" when you offer a contract. Don't know when, and I'm sure it's different for every player. I understand the loyalty and I guess money isn't really a concern at Chelsea, but do you really want to keep paying those ridiculous wages for 35 year old backups?

I hear Vagner Love is absolutely nasty in 9.3, but I haven't updated for various shady reasons, so he's just mediocre in my saves. Had him at Shakhtar, but he never really established himself as all that good.

The board has asked me to be less prudent about my money-handling. Seriously, they're asking me to be less jew-y about contracts. So I don't care.

Love is unbelievably good. You know that player who for a season is simply on fire? Like, you might find that you hate playing Rooney, or Torres, or Villa, but after that one season you can cope with them well enough? Well you can't with Love. Simply brilliant striker, you should buy the game, get the update and buy him. Worth it...

I don't think that board request is about contracts. They just want you to start making Galactico signings. I haven't seen it in FM09, but in previous years your Chairman would ask you for a big name signing in the summer, and if you didn't make one near the end of the summer he would buy someone for you. That was always the worst when you'd hit continue and news would pop up saying "Roman Abramovic has bought Ronaldo from AC Milan for 50M Euros".

Sometimes the board makes a joke about how well you are conserving your money, if its really ridiculous.

Kinda silly that all this pales in comparison with signing the likes of Messi and C.Ronaldo.

It's nice to see that I'm not such a shoddy manager, and that I can actually defeat teams which are better than mine, a situation I don't have to worry about with Chelsea. Beat Spain 1-0 in the group stages and then trampled Nigera 4-0. Russia actually have a very gifted side. I highly recommend guys like Torbinskiy, Dzagoev, Temnikov, Shishkin, Sedov and Progbenyak. I don't think I should even have to talk about Arshavin, Zhirkov and Akinfeev. Lifesavers. Akinfeev's penalty-save was one of the best moments I've experienced in FM. Although he had some help:

Always place your defenders IN the area for penalties.

I'm also top of my WCQ group having beaten Serbia once and Germany twice.

Fyi, how do you change the Germany real-plkayer setting? I did it when I installed the game, but the version's been uypdated and now it's gone back. Any help?

EDIT: Barcelona have enquired for Bojan, and I told them to bid 30m, which they did. I don't need the money, and he's already adapted and is improving. I could always got someone else, and I have Sahar and Di Santo who could take his place as 3rd choice, but he's still better than them and as I said, I don't the money. I've offered him to other clubs for 50m. Any advice welcome.
