FM or CM?

Living in a relatively small, U.S.A. city, there is no way to purchase either of the "branches" of the old Championship Manager without having them shipped here from England. It also means that I can't really talk to anyone and compare the two.

So, which one would all of you recommend that I buy, and why? There seems to be stronger support for the non-Eidos product, Football Manager, but I can't quite get a grip on why that is true.

Never ever consider CM. You can in the old days but since 2005, FM has been the only football managerial game considered.

(Oh to be in England, with all of you enthusiasts!)
Thanks for the responses. What are some of the particular features that make FM superior?

"before you start your first game pelase make sure you are unemployed and single "

I almost ended up both unemployed and single when I bought CM 2002. It sounds like FM might just put me over the edge!

hal wing, these guys have been joking around with you

FM is by far the better game because

-FM picked off from CM0304 unlike CM, which had to start from scratch in 2005, making it very buggy and unrealistic

Football Manager 2006 is made by the same guys that USED to make Championship Manager, up until CM 03/04. They seperated from EIDOS and now are published by SEGA. It's the same gameplay you know and love, just improved by a lot. CM is much less stable, less intuitive, harder to use, less engaging and overall, a lesser game.
Hope that helps ;) :ewan:

CM needs time. Try them in about 3 to 4 years and it'll be better. Now, though, it's FM all the way, atleast for me.

i think a quick check at a few things can answer this question:

1. from the CM forum:
"any editor out for this game i want to update me teams and finances"

answer:
CM's Official sub forums read like this; General Discussion, Bugs, Research Issues, Good player guide, tactics and training, skinning. There is no reference to any editor

CMFAQ.com lists its downloads like this: CM5 Official: 2 entries (patch and demo), CM5 utilities: 0 entries.

2. after launching months ago there is still only 140 threads in the official CMO forum.. well.. that worked.

3. The screenshots say it all:

....
