As far as Gameplay AI and all the major parts of PES , the PS2 HAS reasched its limits! The main dev "Seabass" told you so in 2 interviews that Konami PULLED from the web!

Bottom line, he said that the PS2 had reached its limits as far as Gameplay Enigne AI the 2 main factors in the game.

well, in the one i read he wasn't even talking about the AI at all. he said that in terms of animations and player movements they are limited by the PS2 hardware and, if i remember correctly, that they are at currently at about 50% of what they want to do.

translate: PES6 will have ****loads of cool new animations (how about players spitting and ejecting snot ;-) but the AI will be more or less the same ****e we have since -- uhm -- 7 years now?

Well I also am not so interested in seeing graphix improvement before the next-gen show up... Except for changing the horrible grass and pitches in the game... it doesn't need more textures/sharpness..etc. It just needs new drawings and desgins... To make the job easier, why don't they just watch a real match on real grass and compare?

And the pictures are anything but impressive... I mean Konami SUCKS at publicity. The camera angles and player movements and dynamics captured in the photos don't at all reflect this game's pefection... EA Sports, on the other hand... is EXCELLENT in that field... selling bad merchandise is tough business. They should learn a bit from EA's style in advertising for their products... Keep leaking info to the crowd... interviews... rendered screenshots... etc. Is it hard to do that?

I remember Fifa's "FIRST TOUCH" campaign last year.... they made a REALLY BIG DEAL out of it even though PES/WE already had a far more realistic and balanced 'First Touch' integrated in the game 2 years ago... Konami sux at advertisement... this branch in the company needs serious changing.

Oh and I believe PES5/WE9 will be even more amazing than the already perfect game...

PS - about the passes going to wrong players... well any real soccer game has mis-passes all over the 90 minutes... and it also ruins good chances and counterattacks... I don't think this should be a problem with the game...

But I do fear that, whilst WE10/PES6 on PS3 will see more tangible improvements in AI, that the current level of scripting/cheating/cpu interference will not be decreasing, indeed, the very opposite.

Aqua ! I hope you are wrong..

One of the most annoying things in PES (cpu cheat or whatever they call it ) is the player I am controlling and have running at a cpu player , (usually for a 50 50 ball ) is the cpu stopping my player mid run so the cpu player has a clear take off the ball. It kills the flow of the game for me ( and Yes I know there is a Super Cancel Button , but by the time you use it, if it works 1st time , your momentum has gone and so has the cpu player with the ball...

The other main one is the scripted passing or whatever it is? again you have all seen it.. The best one or worst one I should say was in a game where I had my forward running into the box at one side of the D and he had 2 defender come arcoss to block him ( just as I had hoped ) I turned him away from them on the line of the 18yrd box and turn my player to face his now unmarked team mate on the other side of the D. The 2 of them were alone, the rest of my team were further back, so I pressed the pass button to hit the ball (what 8yrs? across the D ) to my unmarked player who would have a clear run into the box for a strike on goal.. Or so I thought, I pressed the pass button and the ball flew off my boot at a sharp angle straight to the cpu keeper on the goal-line who flopped down on it !!

Scream ... I just about smashed my game pad against the wall ..

I never played PES for about a month after that one ...

This scripted passing has to be taken out to make the game more real , ok I know it does not happen all the time , but it seems to happen when you would have an advantage in the game.. And yes I do have manual control set for my players, though that does not seem to work all the time either...

So take out that scripted passing or cheat or whatever it is and the one where my player stops mid run to allow the cpu player a clear take of the ball or a clear run with it...

Thnx MIGHTY TIC you hit it right on the nail. I hope you read that "THE KNIGHT" that's what I was trying to say about the passing so the KONAMI world phrasing is called script. There is times where the player makes a pass that you don't command and I think no matter what the ball should go where you point... bottom line.

Well that's quite a dilemma... you see if the ball goes where u point, you'll actually have to totally move the players body to face that direction, and that's no the case in reality. Players could pass in all 8 directions (with limitations acording to speed and momentum) without facing these directions.

Sometimes the are 2 players close to the direction you've chosen. The pc THEN has to choose for you which one receives the ball. But if u want to pass it to the slightly FURTHER player, you should hold down the Passing button.. but I guess you know that.

About the times when players do passes that they werent commanded to do (make sure u didn't press the passing button a while before receiving the ball) then this is certainly a glitch that has to be dealt with in pes5/we9.... although I have to be frank it hasnt happened with me.

When running, however, the momentum of the player makes it necessary for him to actually be facing the player you want to pass the ball to... however in the play 'MIGHTY TIC' described.. it had to be a 'glitch' or an exception... because I know what kind of play he's describing and it always works with me... no need for fundamental changes in the passing system I guess. These are needed only when the exceptions take over and become the rule... i don't think that's the case with WE8...

Oh by the way I'm talking about WE8, not PES4... pes had some glitches that were addressed in WE8... like players losing balance and falling down every 10 seconds... maybe the passing thing was one of these problems...I really don't know. But what I could tell you is that the passing system shouldn't be a priority for Konami instead of the shooting system (which they are already improving...) But that's only my opinion :)

and PLEASE, if there's any Japanese gamer over here, go to the Winning Eleven 9 thread and try to translate the loads of info shown in the screenshots... thanx

I can't bring myself to believe that PES is even near the PS2's full capacities. I mean there are games that are multiples better than PES graphically for the ps2. For example Metal Gear Solid 3. This game also has great AI. I mean there are scenes with more 10 soldiers in the view at once, but the game runs with no slowdowns. Not to mention the detailed 3d models and textures. Another example is ESPN NFL 2k5. Same story. Great graphics. Great AI. No slowdowns. I think this game has way better graphics than PES. Anyways, I don't want to get too much into the games. I'm pretty sure there are lots of games out there who have better AI AND Graphics. I believe that PES can improve a lot graphically. The only way PES uses ps2's full capacities is if it has really crappy graphics engine which uses up way more power than it has to. I mean my pc isn't top of the line, but it can run PES4 at full resolution, full detail, and I can have programs running in the back and I still experience no slowdowns. I can't imagine PS2 capacities to be that low.
