FIFA's Referee Instructions

When the rule came to Brazil, it was totally misunderstood. Refs were talking "no sliding tackles", when it really was "no tackles that may injure the opponent". Still, I think John's card was deserved. It wasn't a straight red, it was a second yellow.

i agree that the fouls against crouch were rediculous, they're making the game, 'soft', England and english based players will be most effected i think because they play go in hard in the EPL and its allowed. so yeah, I've also noticed a crack down on gaining extra metres from throw-ins it might have been said already i dunno i havent read all the posts in the thread.

Well, I just think Dracula was an exception. Other refs in other games have let the game flow pretty much without being so card happy or blowing up for any little excuse.

I know cards were issued in other games but mainly due to persistant offending. Man, Dracula gave away how many throw ins to the other side because it was taken from the wrong spot? Its up to the linesman to tell the thrower where to stand, and if the linesman doesn't do his job, then why should the team with the throw be penalised.

Dracula was very bad as #1 Stunna predicted he would be. Lack of consistancy by the refs leaves players just not knowing what is gonna be allowed and what is not. Crouch got a yellow yesterday not for putting his hands on the defenders shoulder, but for questioning the refs decision to award a free kick against him. He never ran to the ref and screamed at him, he merely shrugged his shoulders and shook his head towards the ref. That was enough for Dracula to card him. Yet in other games I saw players surrounding the ref waving imaginary cards at him, I saw some nasty tackles too that escaped bookings , but Dracula gave Gerrard a card when there was no contact with the player or the ball. It was not even a tackle with intent.

So I think that as long as Dracula does not get another game, the remaining refs might be more consistant and more in tune with each other. There will still be controversial mistakes made by the officials, hopefully none of those "mistakes" will be deliberate of course, but I wouldn't bet on it.

See this is the beauty of lower league, an especially sunday league football. Its a much more physical game, there is nothing more satisfying then getting a hard sliding tackle in and winning the ball, knowin fall well you've also inflicted a bit of pain on the player :P I'm not talking about reckless swings at players, thats just stupid, but a nice hard tackle its a thing of beauty. There doesn't seem to be much of a problem in England, although in the Premiership more and more players are going down far to easy, i can't watch a Spanish or Itallian game, some of the fouls are just ridiculous.

After watching the first few games, this whole Yellow Carding situation seems completely ridiculous. FIFA are instructing referees to book players that tackle too hard, even if they take the ball. That's f'ucking ridiculous!

If a player can't go in hard for a sliding tackle without the fear that they're going to get booked/sent off regardless of whether they take the ball or not is just plain stupid.

With the new ball (another ridiculous decision) aswell, it looks like FIFA are just promoting attacking football and really leaving defenders and Goalkeepers at a huge disadvantage. They're protecting all the players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and co. that want to run with the ball from anyone being able to even challenge them with a sliding tackle.

This is completely represented by the John sending off in the T+T vs Sweden game. He took the ball first, he took the player aswell but the ball first and it wasn't malicious at all. A few years ago that wouldn't have even been a foul.

Looks like Ronaldinho got his request met when he said Brazil needed protecting.

I couldn't agree with you more. World game becoming soft?
World game was invented in England so the world cup should be played like the English League rules. Not the soft can't do anything phyisical boring over refed game

Refs only get to ref another game in the knockout stages if FIFA deemed they did well in their group game. I'm sure we won't see Dracula again.

No we'll see him for a england game in the knock out stage proberly. So as usual we'll be playing agaist 12 men (not including the fagsmen smart arses!)

England never get a fair go!

The Tony Adams and Stuart Pearce style (H) - Hit 'em hard (but fairly) first time to make them sure they know you're gonna be there.

I think the huge problem England have is the fact that the way the game is played in England is so different to other countries, the game is MUCH more physical, and i think because of that we suffer at international/european level.

Heck, we invented the game we should decide whats a foul and what's not (H)
