I dont know where to start first, but I just need to say Im one of those FIFA series supporters who have bought the series from FIFA96. There are obviously ups and downs throughout, and I still miss FIFA98, ROTC98 and FIFA2003. In fact I missed them so much that I uninstall FIFA2004 and reinstall FIFA2003 (with a outsider patch though, sigh...)
FIFA2004 is a new lowpoint for EA really, and here's my list, which I suggest people to keep on adding...
1) extremely slow players
2) sticky players with invisibly big size that balls got stuck and run round their bodies easily
3) super defenders who easily catches your ball and only know how to bunt the ball upfield
4) pinball like ball physics
5) everyone agrees: all goalkeepers are supermen, catch every balls
6) the closer the shot to the goal, the worse the aim and power whereas the further away from the goal, the more powerful the shot -> 40 yard goal
7) where the hell is the creation centre: for players, and customisable leagues?
8) banana like parabola for a shot
9) stupid free kick / corner system: cant even control your drop spot
10) what kind of menu is that
11) what kind of league table is that, has EA reverted to 40 column screen
12) team formation display, 8 players only?
13) slippery floor
14) poor research in every aspect of the game
15) I dont know which goon is responsible for the overall architecture of the game: but has EA done any alpha testing, not to even mention beta? This game wont go through the most basic test and even the most ardent EA supporters. Giving a patch 2 days after the game is released and still bugful? What are they doing
17) Where is the instant replay recorder?
18) The prestigious point systems doesnt work
19) Poor highlight after the game
19) The list goes on...
In a nutshell, the gameplay sucks badly. Im really wondering what kind of amateur programmer EA employs. They probably rewrite every games every year, which sees gameplay (or without it) changes every year. Everytime I try to play it, I get more angry... I need enjoyment from a game, not loathe.
Of course there are something great about FIFA2004. Its graphics and audio is awesome. Motson and McCoist mumbles rubbish sometimes, but audio is not bad. The player's face, which looks still like a sculpture is good and its like a movie. Ah that's the point, EA is producing a movie or a sim from FIFA2004. They are not selling a game. EA is Electronic Arts, not Games. Maybe we're expecting too much from an amateur.
My wishlist for FIFA2005? I hope it'll never come out, and let others do the job for soccer gamers.
