I have been testing out Fifa2000 with Windows XP for about a month now with Version 2.6 of my 3D Patch looking for any obvious bugs when it was brought to my attention that one users Game Controller did not operate under WinXP in Fifa2k.
Puzzled I loaded the game again and thought I would test the game again. Worked fine using my microsoft sidewinder gamepad, but I soon relised the keyboard was not functional in game except at a resolution of 640x480.
Next I tested three other brands of joypads and relised that only Microsoft Controllers worked ingame.
I got one of the controllers to work by going to Control Panel, Game Controllers and selecting detect new controllers. It did so and then I was fine. But older controllers still would not work using this method.
Any way a quick e-mail to a connection in Microsoft told me that it is a problem with the controllers+keyboards driver interface with WinXP. Microsoft problems do not have the problem because they knew of the up coming change.
They also informed me that my 3d Patch was not to blame. But it could make game controllers without full DirectX support cease to work under XP at higher resolutions. Strange, my patch only affects the 3d output of the game, nothing to do with the controllers.
3dfx users however will experiance none of these problems (if they do not use Microsoft drivers as they do not support Glide acceleration, stick with 3dfx's) and will once again laugh at those mere mortals who believed Glide and 3dfx is dead.
