Fifa vice-president Carlos Warner said he will battle to stop England hosting the 2018 World Cup.

His decision will be a blow to the Football Association, who were likely to plan a bid on the back of any change to the current selection procedures.

"If the World Cup were to go to Europe, I'm quite sure, with the English luck as it is, they won't get it," Warner told BBC World Service.

"There are moves to give it to England. I must fight that."

Warner, a member of the world football body's executive committee since 1983, added: "It will be Italy, Spain, or even France who will get the World Cup if it goes to Europe.

"Nobody in Europe likes England. England invented the sport but has never made any impact on world football."

yeah im all for people having their own views, but for a man who's so high up in fifa to be so blatantly racist is stupid, he should be getting the sack for that.

Ummm, so how have Spain contributed to world football seeing as inventing the game and actually winning the World Cup isn't enough of an impact? Complete joker.

Also France had it in '98 and Italy in '90, so obviously they should get it again :rolleyes:

BTW wasn't Warner investigated for taking bribes a while back...enough said.

This attack borders on racist. He is basically denouncing England, and it's people (of which I am one) it is the sort of unprovoked outburst that FIFA should move to distance themselves as a whole.

I understand as a member of CONCACAF that he has to defend his region's prospects, but these remarks are erroneous and offensive.

Really? That's why the English game is the most watched league in the world then, that's why when you mention the world's biggest clubs the words "Manchester United" and "Liverpool" come to mind. :jambo:

England has done nothing for world football? Okay how about;

Some of the greatest players in the world ply their trade in the English League, many of them are English and there are many world renowned English players in football history.

A lot of famous clubs around the world were founded by English settlers. Oh and how about the oldest and most famous competition in the world? The FA Cup!


It's true that England has an "outsider" reputation throughout Europe and a minority of "fans" have given us a poor reputation. But if you take England out of a World Cup competition, you'll miss the sight of some of the most passionate fans in the world, and also some of the best players too.



Also listen to someone who has a bit more credibility in the world game;

German legend Franz Beckenbauer :jambo:

"There is no better country in Europe to host the World Cup in 2018. England is the favourite."

"The Premier League at the moment is the best league in Europe and the stadiums are outstanding.

"In my opinion, there is only one very serious candidate and it is England."


And he knows a damn sight more about football than that idiot.


Oh and the spelling is "Racist" by the way.

Nobody likes England? How on earth can he say that?? He's insulting an ENTIRE nation and creating a divide between england and europe. We've never achieved anything in football? This is obviosuly COMPLETELY wrong. Seriously, how can he say all that as a represntative of of Fifa??? This has peeved me off BIG time. It's so insulting.

You can't really be angry at comments like that though... when it's so clearly biased rubbish it's easy to just shrug your shoulders at it. At least this is kind of funny.

This guy is CONCACAF's President, he's done some dodgy **** too. There's a documentary about corruption in FIFA, needless to say "Sweet Carlos" is heavily featured.

The USA and Mexico can't stand him, but he wins because he gets the votes of smaller nations. Apperently he (Trinidadian) had his cousin cast Haiti's vote once. He's not even well liked in T&T anymore following his ticket escapade.
