As you will read this tread, you FIFA fans will discover that you have all noticed the things I mention and that no matter how much you love your footy game, you will have to agree with me.
First of all, I have FIFA 98,99,00,01,02,03 (some of them in more than 1 format)
I do not have a PS2 anymore (I sold it a year ago) and the only Pro Evo game I had in PS2 was #1. I've played PES2 many times and I think it's the top in footy games.
Cons of FIFA (let's only talk about F2004-demo with plug in for customizable resolution, game length, speed and dif. level, played with Logitech Rumble pad, Sidewinder USB Plug n Play and keyboard)
Engine
90% of the game is based on script, what more can I say? (that's why all the matches are the same) The players duck in most of the moves, like passing or intercepting the ball.
Passing
The players just wait for the ball to get to their feet, they never move, except if they are on a long run or you use the off the ball feature (which is a tragedy for football games)
The player can only pass the ball directly ON a player, because of the first passing con I mentioned.
Shooting
"all they look alike!" That says everything, I believe. Script again...
Defense
Many people kept complaining about the defenders. "You just take the ball from one side of the field and run. That's the easiest way to score a goal". This phrase was the best hint for this game. EA tried to correct this by making the defenders 30% faster than the players they chase and able to stop every attacking move except passing (I even tried the amateur mode, they do it there too). But when you get past them, they are sooooo stupid!
Corners
The new system for corners sucks so bad... Maybe EA thinks the gamers actually like the scripted gameplay and decided to replace the old corner system with this piece of #@#%^# .
Fouls
Same thing here.
Formation and tactics
Just take a look in the possibilities in PES2 and 3 and I don't even have to mention anything about the FIFA tactics.
Graphics
The advantage of FIFA. PES3 PC edition and Club Football are about to change that.
F2004's players give the impression that they are too short and chubby. The textures are pretty good.
Come on, be serious. You have nothing to lose now with the PC edition of PES.
Just give it a try and you 'll see that it's years ahead of FIFA. I used to be one of you just because the only footy game for PC was FIFA. Join the dark side. Have fun with the FIFA killer.
