FIFA EURO2004 from PES fan viewpoint

Just played the EURO2004 demo...no joke right.....it IS FIFA2004 in disguise! Absolutely ridiculous. EA will never learn.

Positives (Baring in mind this is only a demo)

Atmospheric Crowd Sound

Added Cinematics

Nice looking menu interface

You can now beat a man without being tackled EVERY SINGLE TIME


Negatives

Same awful gameplay i.e. every pass finds its man successfully. Linear running paths. Appalling goalkeeper AI. All shots are ridiculously powerful etc.

Horrible graphics, all players are still burn victims with squared knees. Players hair look like they've been painted onto their heads.

No fluidity in gameplay, as well as randomness that makes PES so great. Still the same old same old.


Final Verdict: EA haven't gone forward since FIFA04, and that was easily one of the worst in the FIFA series to date, so looks like the only way EA can sort it out is if an EA spy goes to Konami HQ and steals the PES game code :rolleys:

I thought it was quite a bit better then fifa 04, but you can tell its just a modified 04 version.

My thoughts then:

WTF is up with the animations they seem to lag very bad even tho my fps are maxed out, makes it feel like ya playing online on a 250 ping.

Crowd sounds in the demo suck ass, they dont match the on screen action, demo lacks atmosphere with no commentary.

Players faces look alot better but they seem to be going down the cartoony route.

Passing i thought was slightly better but still very stiff and scripted.

Shots are farking terrible hardly any control over them and way to powerful.

Keepers i thought were quite good, but also completely dumb at same time.


The main thinh i h8 about fifa games is that its so stiff to play, u hardly have any control over ur crosses passes or shots and even move ya player feels like your moving him over a chess board.

Cutscenes were rather good and dramatic all tho most were in fifa 04 with a little tweaking and i like all the
official stuff from euro 04 thats in game.

The ball skin pwnz


The lightining and staduim effects tho were top notch i would love to see them implemented in to PES/WE7 makes it look so much better.

All in all i think the games are now going down different routes:

PES/WE7 is aimed at realism and build up play

Where as Fifa is aimed at all out action goals and fast gameplay.


I guess it just depends on which you prefer and how much time you have to play games.

the ONLY thing i liked first in this demo, was the ability to do some good looking tricks with the right analog stick. but after a while also this gets annoying. it seems so.. random.. scripted.. not fluid.. EA like.. :kader:
dribbling/doing feints in PES is much much more realistic. NO comparison :confused:

FIFA already tried hard to copy some features from WE/PES , but they just can't make up their mind, and their programmer seems know nothing about soccer ~!

i havnt even played the demo nor am i eva gonna play the demo it would be a waste of time d/l it becuase its a FIFA title which = ****E :D pes till i die !:rockman:

haha they were comparing FIFA2004 and Euro2004 on 1 of the pages and it said Bicycle kicks and Headers WERE N/A on fifa 2004??? WTF I thought they were????? Of course I never did it but OMG your telling me u make a football game with no bicycle kicks or diving headers available??????

Im glad I found WE6 last year when it came out. KONAMI IS GOD!!!!!!!

That is why people hate EA FIFA so much, they think all customers are dumb moron, and expect people keep buying their game!

How dare they did that?!! no Diving Headers & Bicycle Kicks in FIFA04 (LOOK, and EA said this is the best soccer SIM game), and now they put that back in EURO04 just for leeching more our money!!! WTF???!!!

Its interesting to see there still have people loving EA - FIFA / EURO04 so much, I will have a good laugh to see people waste money on this Crappy game, and keep supporting EA to release more ****ty game~~

Actually, that's nothing new.

Take NBA LIve and NHL for example.
THey take out some random features 2 years ago and then reinsert it this year, claiming it's BRAND NEW FEATURE!

what a joke...

It seemed about 2 times better than FIFA however the gameplay still sucked.....they still have the all players kicking with both feet accurate as if they were ambidextrous( i know its not the right word can't think of the right word).....same old linear passes...same old crappy goalie AI....same old ways of scoring....theres no randomness in EA's games EVER......no matter how they "improve"...its the same crap every year.....

I really think it's an enjoyable game. It goes without saying these days that pes/we is a more realistic simulation of football, but I'm honestly enjoying playing the euro 2004 demo at the moment.
What more can it provide other than enjoyment?

At first I kind of liked Euro 2004 demo, it was nowhere near PES but it was quite good, but then after a few matches I started to see that its just too scripted, the passing is ok at times, but shooting and crossing is terrible. The goalies just react too quickly to shots and crosses, and what the feck are those skill moves about, they are just random.
Overall its an improvement on fifa 2004, but not enough to make up the £30 price tag.

It also occurs to me that the AI is predictably thick. I fired up the demo on my crappy PC and watched Paul Scholes have a free man to his left. What's he do? Runs into Figo.

On the plus side, the way some players hold the ball up is nice and strangely contradictory of the FIFA series. Still, they'd need to take a mighty step back to go forward.

Think of the good old days of FIFA RTWC and World Cup '98.

Yeah, those were the days. WC 98 was one of the most enjoyable football games ever. After FIFA 2000 it all went downhill though (i still enjoyed FIFA 99 because alot of my mates played it so i had the multiplayer factor in my favor).

1. You don't really "Feel" in control of the player on the ball.

2. The ball ?? weird the way it moves .


I d/ld it to give it a chance , and I was a FIFA owner from day one until 2003, stayed clear of 2004 and went over to PES3 when it come out on PC.

I tried and tired , but the play was really bad, and shooting seemed pot luck! but the worst thing was the ball and the way it moved ,strange!

One thing I do like about the EA Fifa series is the way players move (not animation) but run off the ball and players and make angles for passes. I know there I a button you press to make the last person to pass the ball run forward, but in EA's game I don;t need to and the players are always looking to make runs for a pass. but that is the only thing Id take from EA' FIFA!

the rest is I think getting worse instead of better!

I just want to play the best football games, at the moment its PES if that ever changed Id buy the other title too no matter who made it... I just love football........

It's just a marketing strategy to maximize Euro 2004 incomes.

As far as the demo, I won't even try it. I'm happy the way my PES/WE goes! :)
